@Dru Even after all those years, this is an amazing boss fight.
People often think FPS bosses are bad, and I dont blame them- most of them are just HP sponges and little else.

But Craw actually had a some mechanics you had to watch out for:

*Minions: Each of them weak to a certain element only. So you have to get a gun adequate for every single one of them.
Also, every minion has a pattern & ideal way to dodge them.
and the classic Borderlands strategy of using weak enemies and try to keep them alive with a silver of HP, so you can revive yourself ASAP when downed is in full play here as well.

You need both a ton of practice and situational awareness to deal with all of this.

*Crawmerax himself: You can only damage him by shooting at the weak points. One of them is particulary hard since its on his back...plan ahead, and good luck.
Most of his attacks are perfectly avoidable. And for the only one that isint (He jumps and creates a massive shockwave IIRC), you can still mitigate the damage by jumping at the right time, or using the rocks from the arena.

This is far, FAR better design than just a simple "HP sponge" fight. That, along with the fact you of course need all the knowledge on the game to succeed (I actually had to buy and use all medpack items, the only instance in the game I was actually forced to use them), and it also makes you use all mechanics (All elements for weapons) makes this boss fight a gem. An amazing way to end the post-game with.

I will never forget that winning attempt on Craw. He died, only after an intense 30 minutes long battle.. holy crap. My heart rate was thorough the roof xD

Roland’s Special Skill is also probably the worst for the fight, compared to other characters. The Scorpio turret can still help as a decoy for a little bit, it can tank 3 hits from Craw before being destroyed though. Compare that to something like Lilith’s Phasewalk, and its obvious he is at a disadvantage in that aspect. It made winning with him all the more fun!

This is how you do an FPS boss fight.

The Destroyer looks like the Gene Worm from Half-Life: Opposing Force, and almost behaves like it. it has the portal it partially comes out of, it has a similar visual appearance, and it also goes back into it upon defeat. this isn't a bad thing IMO, because Gearbox Software also made Opposing Force 10 years prior to Borderlands.

Xavier Fuentes

It is literally a giant gene worm callback so you are not wrong

This bossfight may have been easy, but it was executed so well. The more you damaged it, the more it went through the portal, it really felt like I wasn't gonna kill it in time on my first playthrough. The music makes it intense as well. And to people saying the boss is too easy, use geat 5 levels lower than what you're currently using, or only use standard White rarity items.

Soloing Crawmerax with Roland was one of the most intense and hardcore videogame boss fights I have ever done.
I my 20 gaming years, so far, nothing has come close to this fight. Man... the game itself as a whole was incredibly easy, but OH BOY did they pull some kind of difficulty spike for Crawmerax... The whole game before him might as well have been a long ass tutorial, LOL. I am just so in awe at the entire fight, words can not do it justice. Its extremely well designed. (Well, unless you use glitches, but you are really makings yourself miss one of the best boss fights you can find in any videogame if you do that. A total diservice).

I’m with you this fight is incredible, I solo him with Lilith on a near daily basis now due to the remaster, because, after all these years, he still has yet to drop the Bessie for me. It is the only Pearl that I am missing. Which is sad because it is probably the best one from what I have heard and seen of it.

Such a missed opportunity for them to not at least make a remix of this for Tyreen the destroyer or reusing it for her boss fight in BL3...

Tycitron

Ikr, this theme is so much cooler than the one in BL3.

SuperGojiraFan

I'm genuinely disappointed that they didn't.

Sailing

Hi, concert choir alumni here. I listened to them back to back, and determined that:
1) They are in the same key.
2) Tyreen’s battle is 1/2 tempo of this one.
3) They are both tracks that rely more on ambiance than melody.

A remix does not need to sound remotely like the original, but a well trained ear can pick out the shared leitmotif.
Conclusion: The BL3 composers focused on this track when composing the music for Tyreen’s battle. I’d need to see the sheet music itself for a more concrete call.
