He was born in Manoguayabo, then part of Santo Domingo, D.N. (the capital city) and now part of Santo Domingo Province. He studied music at National Conservatory of Music in the Dominican Republic.
In the 70s, after his father left Los Compadres Guitar quartet, he formed his first group, Los Virtuosos, with his father as the lead singer. His father kept the group and renamed it as Cuco Valoy y Orquesta (Cuco Valoy and his Orchestra) where he hired singers Peter Cruz and Henry Garcia. Ramon Orlando went to form another group. Years later, Cuco Valoy group disintegrated and he moved to Colombia due to his political differences with then Dominican president Joaquin Balaguer. Ramon Orlando then went onto a more ambitious project. He and then famous merengue singers Peter Cruz and Henry Garcia formed La Orquesta Internacional (The International Orchestra), where he was supposed to be the composer and director whereas Cruz and Garcia were to be the singers. However, of the first ten single production, Ramon Orlando wanted to sing four of them himself, which caused the group to split. Peter Cruz and Henry Garcia formed their own groups which didn't last long. Ramon Orlando quickly hired a couple of boys with similar voice tones to Cruz' and Garcia's to interpret the songs already on the radio.
He was a nominee in the Latin Grammy Awards of 2005.

Ya no tiene fronteras
Una de más
No podrá detener
Yo estoy
Decidido a hablarte
Y a contarte
Lo que siento por ti
Este amor desafía el silencio
Y revienta por dentro
Este amor si lo callo más tiempo
Me va a enloquecer
Este amor es un horno de fuego
Que quema mi vida
Este amor que no puedo callar
Y que estalla en mi ser
Este amor, remolino de viento
Que empuja mi vida
Este amor corriendo me sigue
Y no puedo esconder
Este amor
Es escandalizante
Un ciclon
Que me arrastra y no tiene final
Yo estoy
Decidido a contarte
Que me ahoga
Que este amor es mortal
Este amor desafía el silencio
Y revienta por dentro
Este amor si lo callo más tiempo
Me va a enloquecer
The song "Este Amor" by Ramón Orlando is about a love that knows no boundaries or limitations. The first verse talks about how the love is so strong that nothing can stop it, not even one more obstacle. The singer is determined to express his feelings to his love interest and tell them everything he feels for them. The second verse describes the love as something that cannot be contained, and if it is, it will drive the singer insane. The love is compared to a burning fire that consumes his life and must be expressed to avoid further destruction.
The chorus speaks to the intensity of the love and how it defies silence and erupts from within. The singer cannot keep it inside any longer and risks being overwhelmed by it if he doesn't speak up. The love is likened to a whirlwind that propels his life forward and cannot be hidden, no matter how hard the singer may try.
