The Wind
Randall Goodgame Lyrics

You are there
Calling me
Even when I turn away
There You stay
Lord, it's in my pride
Where the demons hide
But then Your wind blows through my trees
And I fall to my knees
Only You could set me free
So I sing
Praises to the King
Worthy is the Lamb of God
My Rock, my strength, my shield
My salvations's seal
That I may never yield the tempter's call
But to Jesus Christ I surrender all
Joseph was a carpenter by trade
And You His apprentice
Think of all the furniture You made
With just a hammer and a nail
And when I think of Your hands so calloused
Free of mischief or malice
Nailed to the tree
The hands that made the world
Took a boy and made a girl
Are nailed there for me
Well I sing
Praises to the King
Worthy is the Lamb of God
My Rock, my strength, my shield
My salvations's seal
That I may never yield the tempter's call
But to Jesus Christ I surrender all
Well, I was standing at the gates of hell
With a heart as black as coal
And You saved my soul
So I sing
Praises to the King
Worthy is the Lamb of God
My Rock, my strength, my shield
My salvations's seal
That I may never yield the tempter's call
But to Jesus Christ I surrender all
In Randall Goodgame's song, "The Wind," the singer speaks of being called by God, even when he tries to turn away. He acknowledges that his pride is where the demons hide, and that it is only through God's intervention that he is able to be set free. The imagery of the wind bending the trees is a metaphor for God's presence, always around us and able to reach us even when we don't want to be found. The singer sings praises to Jesus Christ, who saved him from the darkness and has become his Rock, his salvation's seal, and his protector.
The song also references the biblical figure of Joseph, who was a carpenter by trade and had Jesus as his apprentice. The singer reflects on how with just a hammer and a nail, they were able to create furniture, but it is Jesus' hands that made the world that are now nailed to the tree. This reference to Jesus' crucifixion is a powerful reminder of the sacrifice that He made for humanity's salvation. The lyrics then make a personal connection to the singer's experience by stating that these hands that made the world also "took a boy and made a girl," echoing the Christian belief that every life is created by God.

randall goodgame is one of those performers who deserves to be thoroughly more well known than he is... i saw him open a good number of years ago for jars of clay on their acoustic tour and ever since then he's been one of my favorite artists to "re-discover" a couple times a year
