Taking an interest in music from the age of 6, joining gospel groups and attending Young Musicians Program at Berklee during middle school, Saadiq got the chance phone call of a lifetime, when Sheila E. called one day looking for touring musicians to join Prince on his Parade tour. Saadiq spent two years on the road, a time he called "My University".
Saadiq made a name for himself as the lead vocalist in the rhythm and blues and dance trio Tony! Toni! Toné!. He went by his birth name during the beginning of Tony! Toni! Toné!, where he was joined by his brother Dwayne Wiggins, and his cousin Timothy Christian. He adopted the name of Raphael Saadiq in the mid-1990s.
After the 1996 Tony! Toni! Toné! album, House of Music, (when he performed under his current name) Saadiq started his solo career. He produced a few solo tracks, but Saadiq's next big project became the R&B supergroup Lucy Pearl. He recorded the self-titled album with Dawn Robinson (En Vogue) and Ali Shaheed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest). This group only lasted for one album. His solo album Instant Vintage, released in 2002, also earned 5 Grammy nominations.
Saadiq released his third solo album, The Way I See It, on September 16 2008, featuring collaborations with Stevie Wonder and Joss Stone. Saadiq acknowledges the album's old school soul sound, which he says includes nods to Gladys Knight & The Pips, Al Green, The Four Tops, The Delfonics and The Stylistics.
Various artists have tapped Saadiq to produce their work through the years. Some of Saadiq's most notable work has been with D'Angelo. The 2000 collaboration "Untitled" won D'Angelo a Grammy award for Best R&B Album. In 2007, Saadiq was called on to produce the whole third album from UK Soul singer Joss Stone. Other artists he has collaborated with include The Roots, Macy Gray, Snoop Dogg, Kelis, Q-Tip and Young Bellz.
In 2002, Saadiq founded his own record label, Pookie Entertainment. Among the artists on the label are Joi and Truth Hurts.

Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love
I'm feeling
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love
I'm feeling
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love
I'm feeling
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love
I turned on every light
Because I love my life
I've been feeling more than blessed
Even through the hardest times
I thank God for my few friends
Yes, I can count them on one hand
And as random as I sound
I still manage to hold it down
I'm feeling
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love
I'm feeling
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love
I'm feeling
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love
I'm feeling
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love
You are my rehab
The only needle that I have
Injections everyday
Vein to vein I'm here to stay
I'm drowning in good love
The only space I need to grow
Needle was my life
Someone pass me a glass of wine
Live my life like Willy Wonka
It's that TV Edith Bunker
Uncle Fred and Jimmy Walker
George Jefferson had that walk and
Live my life like Willy Wonka
It's that TV Edith Bunker
Uncle Fred and Jimmy Walker
George Jefferson had that walk and
Live my life like Willy Wonka
It's that TV Edith Bunker
Uncle Fred and Jimmy Walker
George Jefferson had that walk
The lyrics of Raphael Saadiq's song "I'm Feeling Love" express a deep sense of love and gratitude. The repetition of the word "love" throughout the song serves to emphasize the intensity and overwhelming nature of this feeling. It suggests that the singer is experiencing a profound and all-encompassing love in their life.
The first verse highlights the singer's appreciation for their life. They turn on every light, metaphorically illuminating every aspect of their existence, because they love life itself. Despite going through challenging times, they still feel blessed and grateful. The mention of thanking God for their few friends indicates that these connections are cherished and valued. Despite sounding random or unexpected, the singer affirms their ability to handle any situation that comes their way.
In the second verse, the singer compares love to a rehab or a needle, suggesting that love is the source of their healing and addiction. They describe injections every day, symbolizing the constant presence of love in their life. Love provides the necessary nourishment and sustenance for growth. The mention of wine being passed represents a desire for further indulgence and intoxication within this love.
The chorus repeats the sentiment of feeling love multiple times, underscoring its importance and significance in the singer's life. It reinforces the emotional state of overwhelming happiness and contentment.
The final verse references various iconic TV characters, Willy Wonka, Edith Bunker, Uncle Fred, Jimmy Walker, and George Jefferson. These references may be symbolic of the singer's approach to life. They are inspired by the eccentricity and uniqueness of Willy Wonka, the down-to-earth nature of Edith Bunker, the carefree and humorous attitudes of Uncle Fred and Jimmy Walker, and the confident and stylish presence of George Jefferson. Together, these characters represent a way of living life with joy, authenticity, and individuality.
Overall, "I'm Feeling Love" is a celebration of the singer's deep appreciation for the love in their life. It is a testament to the power of love to uplift, heal, and transform their experiences, and it encourages embracing life with a vibrant and unique approach.
