Founded by Creager in 1992, they have long held true to their mission of enlightening the common man as to the power and versatility of the mighty cello. Historically influenced, and constantly costumed, Rasputina keeps a small legion of incredibly passionate admirers enthralled with their earnest musicianship. Considered to be quite a pioneer and visionary, Melora and her group have inspired countless young people to pick up the cello, and have re-inspired many uninspired string players. Rasputina considers this to be the finest payment for their work.

She has special powers, we said a black mass
We sat in a circle, all holding hands
The doll bed held together with old rubberbands
She'll rise, she'll rise, she'll rise
Lay her down in her gingerbread coffin
Lay her down in her gingerbread coffin
When we need her she'll rise to the light
We look down at the ground
And into her eyes
Passed around an old teacup
Filled up with dead flies
Surprise, surprise
Were brought but not used
A collection of knives
We'll remember this moment
For all of our lives
She'll rise, she'll rise, she'll rise
Lay her down in her gingerbread coffin
She's so pretty all laid out in white
Lay her down in her gingerbread coffin
When we need her she'll rise to the light
Lay her down in her gingerbread coffin
It's a flickering beautiful sight
Lay her down in her gingerbread coffin
When we need her she'll rise to the light
The lyrics of this song, Pudding Crypt, by Rasputina, describe a dark and eerie ritual performed by a group of people who stumble upon an old doll while wandering through the grass. This doll, they believe, has special powers, and they conduct a black mass while sitting in a circle and holding hands around it. The doll's bed is held together by old rubber bands, a detail that adds to the disturbing and unsettling atmosphere evoked by the lyrics.
The ritual involves laying the doll down in a gingerbread coffin, a macabre and eerie image that imbues the lyrics with an unsettling Gothic quality. The doll is described as being "pretty all laid out in white," an ironic and unsettling contrast to the fact that it is a doll being treated as though it were a living being. The lyrics suggest that the doll is being honored and celebrated, but the use of dead flies in an old teacup and a collection of knives that were "brought but not used" give the impression that there is something sinister and malevolent about the ritual being performed. The repeated refrain of "she'll rise" reinforces the sense of dread and foreboding that runs throughout the song.
Overall, the lyrics of Pudding Crypt suggest the presence of mysterious and threatening forces lurking just beneath the surface of everyday life. The ritual serves as a window into a world where the boundaries between the living and the dead are blurred, and where powerful ancient forces can be summoned and celebrated.
