Mi Amigo Cubano
Raul Midón Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Mi amigo cubano,
¡Hola!, ¿cómo estás?
¿Qué pasó mi hermano?

Tú y yo no hablamos más.
Separados por circunstancias,
Fuera de nuestro control.
Y a pesar de las distancias
Entre tú y yo,
Aún eres mi amigo cubano.
¡Hola!, ¿cómo estás?
¿Cómo están tus hijos,
Tu esposa y tu mamá?
Tengo en mi memoria,
Noches bailando en Habana.
Y es nuestra historia,
Que vivirá en mi.
Recuerdos de ti,
Mi amigo cubano.
Te extraño, te extraño, te extraño,
Pensando en ti.
Y de tu forma de trabajar
Es digno de recorder.
Tus manos cansando con herramientas
Son trabajando juntos
Cuando yo te vuelva a ver.
¿Qué pasó mi hermano?
¿Qué pasó? ¿Qué pasó? ¿Qué pasó mi hermano?
Tú y yo no hablamos más.
Quisiera saber de ti
Y de todos tus amores
Mi amigo, mi amigo, mi amigo, mi amigo,
Dulces recuerdos de ti,
Espero que te encuentre bien.
Y si te quiero ver
Quizás un día nos encontramos otra vez,
Pescando sobre el mar.
Se desaparece el tiempo cuando tu estás,
Y el amor cura todo el mal.

¿Qué pasó mi hermano?
Mi amigo cubano.

Overall Meaning

The song "Mi Amigo Cubano" by Raul Midón is a heartfelt dedication to a friend who Midón has lost touch with due to circumstances beyond their control. Despite the distance and lack of communication, Midón still considers his friend to be a dear friend and reminisces about their time spent together in Havana. The lyrics are full of nostalgia and longing, as Midón expresses his desire to reconnect with his friend and find out how he and his loved ones are doing. The song also pays homage to his friend's hardworking nature and the memories they shared together.

The song starts with Midón's greeting his friend, asking how he has been since they last spoke. He acknowledges that they have grown apart for reasons beyond their control but wants his friend to know that he still considers him an important friend. Midón then goes on to ask about his friend's family and shares memories of their time spent together in Havana, particularly the nights spent dancing. He also notes the hard work his friend does with his hands and tools, and how he values that.

The chorus repeats Midón's feelings of missing his friend and wanting to see him again, ending with the question: "What happened, my brother?" This line can be seen as a metaphor for the many obstacles that come between people and their friendships, particularly in childhood and youth. Despite the separation, the song still holds hope that the two will be able to reconnect someday.

My Cuban friend,
Hello how are you?
What's up my brother?
You and I do not talk anymore.
Separated by circumstances,
Out of our control.
And despite the distances
Between you and me,
You are still my Cuban friend.
Hello how are you?
How are your kids,
Your wife and your mom?
I have in my memory,
Nights dancing in Havana.
And it's our story,
That will live in me.
Memories of you,
My Cuban friend
I miss you, I miss you, I miss you,
Thinking of you.
And the way you work
It is worth remembering.
Your hands getting tired with tools
They are working together
When I see you again.
What's up my brother?
What happened? What happened? What's up my brother?
You and I do not talk anymore.
I would like to know about you
And of all your loves
My friend, my friend, my friend, my friend,
Sweet memories of you,
I hope I find you well.
And if I want to see you
Maybe one day we meet again,
Fishing on the sea
The time disappears when you are,
And love heals all evil.
What's up my brother?
My Cuban friend

I'm here because of the Legendary Bill Withers ✌️❤️

@locadisa

You wouldn't believe how many times I've seen "Still Bill." Actually when I first saw it I acquired tickets to a Jacksonville Festival just to get to see Raul. I was so overwhelmed I have been a fan ever since. This song reminds me so much of Bill defying Gods gift for so many years after his battle with the record companies but close to the end ( as an older man) realizing that he should have never left the music world. I cried too when his daughter finished her song. I watched it again several months ago after hearing of his death but glad that he made HIS mark before ascending to heaven. A proud and bonafide Rock and Roll hall of famer! Thanks Raul! RIP Sir Bill!
