All for One
Raven Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hear Ye
There is a riot in the town
Gather up your horses swords at the ready
No chance
Like a candle in the wind
Fighting for the sake of the King and Country

[CHORUS:]
As sure as the sea is blue
We're gonna run those rascals through
With the steel that shines so bright
In the magic of the night
No one gets the upper hand
In our green and pleasant land
Hear the call
All for one, One for all
All for one, One for all
Standing high, hear the call
All for one, One for...
Solid as a rock with swords in the air

Speak man
You've got to tell us where they are
The peasants are revolting, so are you
Silence
There's not a beggar to be seen
Where are the cowards of the revolution

[CHORUS]

STOP WAIT!
I smell a rat
Floating on the breeze hiding in the trees
No Chance
They'll never take us alive
Not just a man, but walking fire

[CHORUS]

Overall Meaning

The song "All for One" by Raven is a rousing call to arms for the defenders of the kingdom. The song begins with a call to action, as there is a riot in the town and the people need to be ready to fight. The imagery of gathering up swords and horses gives a sense of a medieval setting, where battles were fought with swords and horses were the primary mode of transportation. The metaphor of a candle in the wind highlights the fragility of the situation and the importance of fighting for the sake of the king and country. The chorus serves as an anthem for the defenders, emphasizing their unity and strength as they fight to protect their land. The use of the phrases "all for one, one for all" paints a picture of a unified front, where everyone is working together towards a common goal. The mention of the sea being blue and the steel shining in the magic of the night further create an image of epic battles and heroic deeds.

The second verse of the song continues with the theme of the fight against rebellion. The urgency of the situation is emphasized with the call to "speak man," as they need information to combat the peasants who are revolting. The contrast between the peasants and the revolutionaries is highlighted, as the latter are cowards who are not to be seen. The final chorus brings the song to a triumphant conclusion, with the call to stop and wait for the rat who is hiding in the trees. The use of the phrase "walking fire" creates a sense of awe and power, and serves to further emphasize the strength and unity of the defenders.

+Greg Keener...Raven certainly did not ride Venom'song coat tails..first of all Raven released their debut album 'Rock until you drop' slightly earlier than Venom's welcome to hell in 1981 and if you really wanna be detailed about it Venom didn't even tour after they released that first album..They didn't play live at all for quite awhile..(They claim their reasoning to be to keep a mystique about them) how could Raven ride their coat tails when they weren't even moving (Touring) there weren't any coat tails to ride because Venom were idle..Lol..and Raven certainly didn't sound anything like Venom and Raven most definitely were better musicians..so anyway it just doesn't make any sense when you state that Raven were riding Venom's coat tails...They did have some things in common as they were both from Newcastle, England who were on the same record label (at the time) and both bands were a Trio who's style of music was metal...

Raven were (alongside Tank) one of the best bands of their time. And both 3-piece bands - go figure and both are still gaining new fans today. In a word - Awesome🤘🤘

This is a metal masterpiece , and in the early 80's before the beginning of the thrash era, they were one of the heaviest bands around the scene
