1) Raven are an English heavy metal band, formed in 1974 by the Gallagher brothers, bassist and vocalist John and guitarist Mark. They have released fourteen studio albums to date, and had a hit with the single "On and On". Often referred to as "athletic rock", the band gained notoriety as part of the early-to-mid 1980s new wave of British heavy metal scene and is considered to be an influence and inspiration on development of the thrash metal genre, including bands such as "the big four" (Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax), as well as others like Testament, Exodus, Overkill, Kreator, Sodom, Onslaught, Death Angel, Flotsam and Jetsam, Coroner, Annihilator, and Razor. Raven are also notable for headlining Metallica's first-ever national tour in 1983.
They are associated with the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, that formed in 1975. They also opened for punk bands The Stranglers and The Motors. Formed by brothers John and Mark Gallagher, Raven quickly set the pace for the burgeoning metal renaissance in the UK at the time. Raven began creating a sound which was rooted in British hard rock with progressive tendencies and a willingness to take musical chances . The band's highly energized live show and interaction between members developed an image and style of play the band described as "athletic". They began wearing guards, helmets and plates from various sports (hockey, baseball,etc...) and incorporating them into the playing of their instruments (for instance, elbow pads were used to strike cymbals for a unique performance angle). Eventually, the band signed with Neat Records, the legendary, low-budget metal label of the Northlands, releasing Wiped Out and Rock Until You Drop within a year's time and making an impressive showing on the UK charts a the time. Sufficient noise was made for the American market to take notice and New Jersey's Megaforce Records signed them, issuing their next recording in the States as All for One. The band came stateside in 1983 and toured extensively with Megaforce bands Metallica and Anthrax, both of whom would gain a place of prominence in the growing thrash metal movement. Manager/Megaforce founder Johnny Zazula believed that Raven were major label material and kept them touring constantly until the big labels noticed. The infamous Live at the Inferno recording was a product of one of those tours. Atlantic Records signed Raven to a worldwide contract after a minor bidding war (major label contracts would follow for Metallica and Anthrax in the following year). The band moved its permanent base from Newcastle to New York.
Stay Hard was released in 1984 and proved a minor hit on the strength of single/video On and On. The Atlantic years proved to be less-than-stellar for the band. A drastic shift in a more "commercial" direction came at the label's behest, with many diehard fans being alienated by the slick, lightweight production of The Pack Is Back (effectively marketing the band with their weird musical forays and confusing image was likely very difficult). However, the band recorded 2 LPs and the Mad EP before being let go by Atlantic. After touring behind the Life's a Bitch album, Wacko left the band to spend more time with his new wife and family. With three albums to their credit(Indoor Driving ~ A Soft Wind Blows ~ Christmas Album), plus a unique collaboration CD with Ann Gray's group, Seanachie, "Five Days in April", the band developed a major following in the Northwest(Oregon).
Other members were Thom Dudley - guitar and vocals, Dan Compton - fiddle, guitar, accordion, Laurie Byers, vocals.

The material was recorded in Atlanta Georgia at a studio called “The Sound Pit” Memories of going into the studio at night and working until the sun came up and feeling like I was floating on a cloud because it sounded so good (Doug – Raven’s keyboardist) Soon after the recording was completed, Raven got a record deal with Capricorn records. 2 weeks later, they went bankrupt. The tapes were subsequently destroyed in a fire.
With Disco sound moving in during the mid seventies and with the bankruptcy of Capicorn records, Raven was literalylike fish out of water, and slowly but steadily what had felt like the beginning of something unique, was lost.
Musically the album relies on a hard driving Progressive sound with a very rhythmic approach filled with virtuoso guitar & keyboard solos as well as pulsating bass lines in a hard-rock backing. Think Primus meets Emerson, Lake & Palmer with a touch of Yes, Deep Purple, Rush and Dream Theater. ..Features Robert Wolff previously with Micah and currently with Corvus Stone. Finally Who do you see sees the light of day 37 years after being recorded.

Now, if I may, I’m gonna ask for your help here, I’ve been hooked with a little new band from Monterrey, Mx for a couple of years now. They are a three-piece band (yes, ONLY THREE 😲) called The Warning. They are sisters and only 22,20 and 17 years old but they sound like they had decades, so tight and fierce.
The point is many of their fans say they are not heavy metal despite the fact they have many heavy metal songs. I insist their heavy sound comes precisely from this type of bands from the NWOBHM. I’m gonna give you three examples of their songs which I’m pretty sure will add to my point and might make you agree with me:

1- Copper Bullets (live at Dakota Bar).
2- Queen Of The Murder Scene (live in Desvelados).
3- Money (this is one of their new singles and maybe this one sounds exactly like your description: no glam, no trash, but still sounds decent metal to me.

They're gonna play in Monterrey Mexico for only 10.50 dollars, and if you already have the ticket for the Metal Fest you can go for free. Didn't know about these guys, but they are good! I'm surprised that it's gonna be very cheap to see them.

Saw RAVEN 2 nights ago here in San Diego, CA and they still rock!!! Always been a fan since 1983. John can still scream like the old days-they still bring the Metal. First time I saw them was here in San Diego back in 85 Stay Hard tour with KEEL as an opening act. The ceiling caught on fire & had to be put out with extinguishers!!! Talk about LIVE AT THE INFERNO!!!

Raven were and is such a unique band. They stand in a class all by themselves. I particularly liked their stage garb; hockey gear and all that. I wishn that they'd still wear that stuff on stage today. LOL

by the time this album was released , glam rock or the hair metal bands were the main thing and also the thrash movement was becoming very succesful, so bands like raven were caught between , no glam , no thrash , just a nwobhm tryng to survive , and this was the swansong for bands like raven, tokyo blade, tygers o pan tang etc etc
