Come Rain Or Shine
Ray Charles Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm gonna love you, like nobody's loved you
Come rain or come shine
High as a mountain, deep as a river
Come rain or come shine

I guess when you met me
It was just one of those things
But don't you ever bet me
'Cause I'm gonna be true if you let me

You're gonna love me, like nobody's loved me
Come rain or come shine
We'll be happy together, unhappy together
Now won't that be just fine

The days may be cloudy or sunny
We're in or out of the money

But I'm with you always
I'm with you rain or shine

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Ray Charles's song Come Rain Or Shine describe an unconditional love that will endure through any circumstance. The singer promises to love their partner like nobody else has loved them, whether it be in good times or bad. They use vivid imagery to convey the depth of their affection, comparing it to a mountain and a river.

The song explores the idea that love is not just about being happy all the time, but also about supporting each other through tough times. The singer acknowledges that the future is uncertain and that there may be both sunny and cloudy days ahead, but they assure their partner that they will be there for them, rain or shine.

The lyrics also suggest that this love is mutual and that the couple are in it for the long haul, through good and bad times. This could be interpreted as a commentary on the nature of long-term relationships in general, as they often require a commitment to weathering the highs and lows that life can bring.

Overall, the lyrics to Come Rain Or Shine convey a deeply romantic and steadfast love that endures through any challenge.

Paul Revell Dear Paul - similar age, similar stuff to love and appreciate plus all the imported r&b and all the 60's stuff temptations, martha &&, otis redding, supremes, marvin gaye, wilson picket, solomon, etc, etc - they just knocked out good songs, rhythm and great voices right up to about end of 60's. I love a lot of early Ray (iwant a little girl, etc. plus rendition of ballads great - come rain, georgia, Ruby..... shame he never did stardust but then I can also go back to Artie Shaw and those wonderful swing bands of my dad's era. Loved the London pubs with all the groups, now household names ( max 7/6d old money to get in plus 3 light and bitters at less than 2 bob ( no measures so bitter near to the top and they gave you the light ale bottle)

Keep well and if poss please explain the degeneration into incessant repetitive rap, etc. and all the crazy over the top strangled warblings of Mariah Carey histrionics - why not sing the song like an Etta James in "at last" and all those old wonderful singers

P.S. I saw Ray at Finsbury Park Astoria a bit later than you - remember "the night time is the right time"

Genius. He used to all his own production, and when they asked why, he said 'cos if it don't work, there's no one else to blame'. What a guy.

The best version of this song by far. I just adore his voice. Miss him too, I cried so bad when he died. Rest in peace Ray. Your music will live on forever ♥

One day I'm going to start a family with a girl that's worth singing this song to and I honestly can't wait.
