My World
Ray Charles Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The time has come to air my feelings
There's just so much confusion going down
I'm not the kind to be complaining
But sometimes you got to stand out from the crowd
Everyone's got their own opinion
And you know I sure got mine

It's my world
Don't you come a messin' with my world
I don't appreciate the fact some people just can't see
It's hurting you and me
It's my world
My world, your world, our world, one world

We all got to get it together
There's just no other place to go
If we can't find some peace with each other
Then we'll be dead before you know
I don't have all the answers
I'm just one man who's searching for a change

It's my world
Don't you come a messin' with my world
I don't appreciate the fact some people just can't see
It's hurting you and me
It's my world
My world, your world, our world, one world

I hear the cries of the people
From every single corner of this earth

Where's the love, the compassion
Where's the hope what's the future worth

Overall Meaning

In these lyrics of "My World" by Ray Charles, the singer is expressing his concern about the state of the world and the need for peace and unity. He begins by stating that he needs to express his emotions and thoughts because there is a lot of commotion and confusion in the world. He adds that he is not usually the type of person who complains, but sometimes one has to speak up in the midst of the chaos. He acknowledges that everyone has their own opinions, and he is entitled to his own.

The refrain of "It's my world, don't you come a messin' with my world" is his way of saying that he's had enough of people who are disruptive and who do not understand the impact their actions have on others. He is expressing his own views and thoughts about how to make the world a better place. He urges people to come together and work towards finding a peaceful solution. He acknowledges that he doesn't have all the answers and that he is just one person trying to create change.

Throughout the song, Ray Charles is emphasizing the importance of unity and compassion for others. He is trying to make people understand that the world belongs to everyone, and we all need to take care of it, realizing that our actions have an impact on others as well. He concludes that he hears the people's cries from every corner of the earth, asking where the love, compassion, hope, and future are. The song encapsulates Ray Charles's desire for a better world in which people live in harmony and respect.

An... interesting attempt to "modernize" Ray's sound. It is VERY 1993, hasn't aged that well but is catchy. The "My World" album is worth it if only for "Song For You" & "If I Could"- two of Ray's best latter day ballad performances. Astounding.

I don't mind this song but I completely agree with you that the two other songs you mentioned are stunning with intense emotional yearning. I wish A Song for You was on ypoutube in higher definition than what we have. I think you have great taste.
