I'm sitting on top of the world, just rolling along, just rolling along
I'm quitting the blues of the world, just singing a song, just singing a song

Glory hallelujah, I just phoned the parsonHey "Par", get ready to call,
Just like humpty dumpty, I'm going to fall
I'm sitting on top of the world, just rolling along, just rolling along

Overall Meaning

These lyrics from Ray Charles's song "Sittin' on Top of the World" are about a person who is feeling happy and carefree. They are "sitting on top of the world" and "rolling along," indicating that they are having a good time and nothing can bring them down. They are "quitting the blues of the world" by singing a song, which might mean that they are distracting themselves from any troubles they may have.

The lyrics "Glory Hallelujah" could represent the feeling of jubilation and excitement that the person is experiencing. They have just "phoned the parson," which could mean that they have just contacted a religious leader or someone they trust to celebrate and share their happiness with. The line "Just like Humpty Dumpty, I'm going to fall" is interesting because it seems to contradict the idea of the person being on top of the world. However, it could be interpreted as the person acknowledging that they are bound to encounter challenges and setbacks in the future.

Overall, the lyrics paint a picture of someone who is enjoying life and openly expressing themselves through song. Even though there may be challenges ahead, they are not letting that bring them down and are instead focusing on the present moment.

Thanks a lot for posting. The 1st time I listened to Ray Charles singing this song was off a cd made by a label called Movieplay. CD was a new technology at the time and discs were expansive, so Movieplay launched classic recordings and bootlegs at very low cost.
