Lonesome Town
Rebecca Martin Lyrics

In the dim light I feel complete
Though the plaster walls
I've worked long and hard for
Are moving in
You will find me sleeping
Without a single soul around
Someone unwinding
In my best dress and make-up
To meet the night I can hardly reach the sink
Everything's cock-eyed
To the drunk that I'm turning into
I've turned into
You will find me sleeping
Without a single soul around
Someone unwinding
In a lonesome part of town
I don't want your sympathy
When I go to speak
Stop and listen to me
Don't turn away
From the words of the gray and aging.
You will find me sleeping
Without a single soul around
Someone unwinding
In a lonesome part of town Lonesome town.
The lyrics of the song Lonesome Town by Rebecca Martin depict a sense of loneliness and solitude of a person who is trying to find comfort in the dim light of a city. Despite the hard work and effort put into making a life in the city, the plaster walls of this sanctuary seem to be moving in, closing her in. She is dressed in her best outfit with makeup, ready to take on the night, but as she turns into a drunk, she realizes that this is not what she wants. The city doesn't seem to offer solace, and she finds herself sleeping alone in a lonesome part of the town.
The singer's plea for attention and understanding is evident in the lyrics towards the end of the song. She reiterates that she does not want sympathy and wants to be heard, to share her thoughts and feelings, and hopes that people will not turn away from her. This song can be interpreted in many ways, such as a person's struggle with alcoholism, or their search for meaning and purpose in life, but ultimately, it is a song about the feeling of being lonesome in a city that in theory should be filled with life and excitement.
