Recent Ancestors Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I didn't do it, it wasn't me
But I still see it on my feed
It didn't happen it's all a lie
Watching this one slowly die
Ears are bleeding stomach turns
Trouble breathing lungs still burn
I don't think I can ever learn
Walking where the cars won't swerve
All to protect and to serve
How can we trust what we hear
When all we see incites fear
Just own up and take the fall
Every time you get the call
Ears are bleeding stomach turns
Trouble breathing lungs still burn
Walking where the cars won't swerve

All to protect and to serve
Just abolish everything

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Protected" by Recent Ancestors delve into themes of denial, deception, and the struggle to discern truth from fiction in a world saturated with misinformation. The opening lines immediately set a tone of denial and dissociation as the singer declares "I didn't do it, it wasn't me," suggesting an attempt to distance themselves from a troubling event or situation. Despite their disavowal, the consequences of the event still haunt them, as evidenced by the line "But I still see it on my feed." This juxtaposition of denial and persistent awareness sets the stage for the internal conflict that unfolds throughout the song.

The chorus of the song highlights the visceral impact of the situation on the singer, describing physical and emotional distress in vivid detail. The lines "Ears are bleeding stomach turns / Trouble breathing lungs still burn" convey a sense of overwhelming discomfort and unease, suggesting that the weight of deception and deception is taking a toll on their well-being. The repetition of these lines emphasizes the intensity of the experience and the sense of suffocation and helplessness that accompanies it.

As the song progresses, the singer grapples with their own sense of complicity and responsibility in the face of pervasive falsehoods and manipulation. The lines "I don't think I can ever learn / Walking where the cars won't swerve / All to protect and to serve" suggest a complex mix of resignation, defiance, and perhaps a glimmer of hope for redemption. The reference to walking where the cars won't swerve implies a willingness to confront danger and uncertainty in the pursuit of truth and justice, even in the face of overwhelming odds.

The final lines of the song deliver a powerful indictment of the status quo, calling for a radical reevaluation and dismantling of existing systems and structures. The declaration to "Just abolish everything" speaks to a profound disillusionment with the current state of affairs and a desire for a fresh start unencumbered by deception and manipulation. By challenging listeners to question their assumptions and embrace radical change, "Protected" serves as a potent commentary on the urgent need for transparency, accountability, and integrity in a world where truth is often obscured by lies.

Thank you I give light to my ancestors.
My ancestors were rice planters and every time I cook rice I do a ritual by calling all of them all by their names. I can go back into the early 1800.
I love and blessed them all. I know I am living the best life because of their sacrifices.
I feel their love for me all the time. God thank you for sending me to them and them to me.
I know they are my guardian angels for my children and grandchildren and will forever more, for all those yet to come.

I say thank you Lord for everything, the good and the bad.
Thank you for posting.
