So at this point the band is doing better than ever. Everyone's happy. Except... they all felt like their 30-45 minutes with fans a night wasn't enough! The idea of a second guitar player got thrown around as a way for all of the band to focus and connect with fans a little better. After talking to several people RCW went with the first person they auditioned. Garett Bouline. So now Red Car Wire was a four piece. Evan Lester, Josh Cutlip, David Hoogerwerf and Garett Bouline. People seemed eager to meet and learn about Garett. It was a smooth transition for the better. "Garett's a super nice person, I people would accept him quickly." -David
Soon after Garett joined, Red Car Wire was about to release their second EP, "Let's Never Get Older." Still produced by their go-to guy Geoff Rockwell, the sophomore album is sightly more mature (with songs about love, break ups, the band and growing up). "I wrote these songs after moving out and doing a little growing up, but some of the songs, like Affinity, I wrote when i was 16." -Evan.
Universal/Motown caught wind of the Texas rock band and liked the raw songs and saw potential in them. Signing the band pushed back the CD's release date to October. Fans were excited and eager to get their hands on the disc.
Immediately after signing, like literally days, the boys jumped onto Warped Tour '08. "The shows were some of the best we've ever played, but we had to tour in Evan's '98 Ford Expedition, it was so miserable!" -Josh. The band fell in love with touring. "Seeing fans everyday and playing shows night is what we were born to do." -Josh. And its a good thing because the boys toured all the way into 2009.
At this point it was time to start thinking about their NEXT record.
"I had been writing a lot while on the road. The life experiences I've had in the last couple of years have cause me to grow up so much. I think our newer songs are a reflection of that. I'm so passionate about these songs, I've never had my heart in music like this before." -Evan.
Unfortunately, David wasn't ready to develop the bands former sound.
"We sat down and talked things over and decided it would be best for Dave if he found a band that he felt like HIS heart was in. And as much as it hurt us all to see him go, we respect his decision and completely support him. We're still friends, there wasn't a fight or a falling out, he just wasn't happy with where we were going with the music. That's totally respectable." -Evan.
Garett, after hearing David's decision, started rethinking his own life and is considering going to college. He's not sure what he wants to do, he's just not sure this is what he wants right now. He does, however, like the new music more than ANYTHING prior that RCW has created.
So...
What can we tell you about the new record? And the Live Show? And replacing David and Garett?
The new record doesn't have a name yet. But i guess its 'theme' is recovery. There are still some love songs, a break up song, and some new instruments.
As far as the live show goes, we're VERY excited to play some new songs! And we're working very hard to make our live show an intense 30-45 minutes that will draw people in. Connecting with fans is the MOST important thing to us.
As far as replacing Dave and Garett,we wish them both the best of luck with where ever life takes them. We've auditioned some new people and things will be for the better. Red Car Wire is just beginning.

It's stupid to use the words others
Spent time to achieve
When the words that we're needing
Are inside us all somewhere
Waiting for rescues
They need to be free It's a lie not to listen
A sin, pessimistic when
Fall through the cracks
Like I love you, I miss you
I hate life with out you
And where have you been my love
I want you back.
So I don't feel alone in the world,
And baby yeah you're hard to get over,
We're older, it's just a little lie we tell all ourselves,
In itself, promise me, let's never get older.
So I don't miss the feeling of "left in the cold"
And this feeling of healing has long since been old
I find times when I'm missing the times you convinced me
I don't need somebody to hold my hand softly and tell me she's wishing
I wished she was with me cause I know now I'm drifting
I'm cleansed yet I'm missing the voice of an angel.
Leave it up to me to blow this whole thing aside
And think of nothing like were nothing
But were young and alive
The clock on your wall isn't moving at all
Lets break out
Lets go out
Get a room
A hotel baby
I'm not saying that I'll love you forever
Hell who am I kidding
Cause were perfect together
Notice that when we talk I can't help but stutter
Your to perfect for words
I just want you forever
The opening line of Red Car Wire's song "Affinity" is a reference to the common pick-up line, "Did it hurt when you fell down from heaven?" The singer seems to be aware of the cheesiness of using such clichΓ©d language and instead advocates for authentic expressions of emotion. The lyrics suggest that everyone has the capacity for meaningful and genuine communication, but too often we rely on pre-packaged phrases and meaningless platitudes. The singer encourages the listener to express their true feelings, even if these emotions are difficult or painful to acknowledge.
Throughout the song, the vocalist reflects on their own experiences of love and loss, expressing a desire to hold onto the intense feelings of attraction and connection that come with a new romance. They acknowledge that this kind of intensity cannot last forever, but still hold onto the hope that they can continue to feel this way with their partner. The song speaks to the fleetingness of youth and the desire to hold onto these moments of intense passion, even as time and maturity threaten to erode them.

And think of nothing like were nothing
But were young and alive
The clock on your wall isn't moving at all
Lets break out
Lets go out
Get a room

Ugh I can't believe how much time has passed since I last heard this. I miss being a teenager, everything was so fun exploring myself and finding out who I am. Even the world back then seemed so different. Everything is so serious and scary now. I miss this time in life.
Crazy how songs can do that to you.

My sister's ex gave this song to her, my sister always play this song before sleep. It was many years ago, before we move house. Everytime I play this song, I always remember those times. Talking with my sister in the bedroom before sleep with turned off lights in our old house, and the memories of a love story I never had haha.
