Universally Speaking
Red Hot Chili Peppers Lyrics

I saw your face
Elegant and tired
Cut up from the chase
Still I so admired
Bloodshot your smile
Delicate and wild
Give me she wolf style
Rip right through me

Silveretta the jets of a lifetime
Go and get her I've got her on my mind
Nothing better, the feeling is so fine
Simply put I saw love stream flow

Come on baby 'cause, there's no name for
Give it up and I got what I came for
Universally speaking
I take it back and you make me nervous
Nothing better then love and service
Universally speaking
I win in the long run

I saw your crime
Dying to get high
Two of a kind
Beats all hands tonight

Silveretta the jets of a lifetime
Go and get her I've got her on my mind
All the better, to make it so fine
Simply put I saw love stream flow

Come on baby 'cause, there's no name for
Give it up and I got what I came for
Universally speaking
I take it back and you make me nervous
Nothing better then love and service
Universally speaking
I win in the long run

Silveretta the jets of a lifetime
Go and get her I've got her on my mind
Nothing better the feeling is so fine
Simply put I saw your love stream flow
Simply put I saw your love stream flow

Folks Lyric Meaning :

1. "...This song is probably about heroin use. The lines, "Cut up from the chase," "Nothing better, the feeling is so fine," "Delicate and wild," "Dying to get high" and "love stream flow" all support this interpretation, as well as the abundance of RHCP songs about heroin use."

2. "...It seems to me that he saw this woman who appeared to be beautiful and carefree from afar. But once he took a closer look, he could see that she was as emotionally broken as he was. And through the internal torment that they both shared, he felt that perhaps there was some sort of connection. He could see himself in her and it was painful yet beautiful to watch. He thought that maybe for one night they could be together and make each other happy by either indulging in their own vices, without any judgement. Or, to just be in the company with someone who truly understands who you are. But they both knowingly make the decision to revel in the false sense of joy that the moment provides. All through the song the word 'Still' pops up. It seems to indicate that he saw her true beauty inspite of who she really was, and longed for the same."

3. "...the key to the meaning of this song has been provided by Coran who realised (or discovered) that the latin noun Lupa means both She-wolf and prostitute. Once the subject has been identified, the meaning of the lyrics becomes clearer.

4. "...i think talks about a relationship. and he says that he loves her."

5. "... it can well be a love song, the fact he's made such a happy song about it probably shows that he loved that girl.."

Song Fact :

~ The music video features the cab driver from "By The Way" (played by Doug Wilson), going through a long way and reaching a Chili Peppers show, just to give Anthony Kiedis a magazine he forgot in his cab after Kiedis escaped. The magazine can be seen at the very beginning of the "By The Way" music video and at the very end of this video.

I noticed that instantly, if I’m not mistaken this is from the same album. He’s likely in more from the album if you look hard enough.

In the music video for By The Way, Anthony leaves the book in this guy's taxi cab when he escapes. He comes back to return the book, which is called "Lexicon Devil: The Fast Times and Short Life of Darby Crash and The Germs". The author of the book, Brendan Mullen, founded an L.A. punk rock club called "Club Lingerie" where the Chilis played either their first or one of their first shows at in 1983. Mullen is credited with basically kick-starting the band's career by booking them for shows.

twelve years later I realized that he just came to bring back the magazine that Anthony left in the cab on the "By the way" video XD

doce años después me doy cuenta que el vino sólo a devolver la revista que Anthony dejó en el taxi en el video "By the way"
