Redman's solo career continued throughout the remainder of the decade, with each of his albums selling at least half a million copies. His musical style has remained very consistent, rarely deviating from a combination of Redman's unique braggadocious wit and hard, P-funk-influenced beats. In addition to releasing albums under his own name, he is part of the group Def Squad (along with Keith Murray and Erick Sermon) with whom he released the 1998 album El Nino, and also has formed a close partnership with labelmate Method Man (of the Wu-Tang Clan) with whom he released the 1999 album Blackout!. The long-awaited follow-up, Blackout! 2, apeared in 2009.
He has also collaborated extensively, both with hip-hop artists and with artists from other genres; the long list of artists and groups he has worked with includes Wyclef Jean, Snoop Dogg, Scarface, The Offspring, Christina Aguilera, Eminem, Gorillaz, D'Angelo, Me'shell Ndegeocello, 2Pac, Jodeci, Cypress Hill, De La Soul, KRS One and IAM.
In 2001 Redman co-starred with Method Man in the stoner comedy film How High, which featured the pair playing two marijuana-addled students attempting to survive at Harvard. Method Man and Redman also appear in the Def Jam Vendetta video game series, often as Tag Team partners, and briefly had their own television sitcom, Method & Red, on Fox during the 2004-2005 season.
Redman is also featured on the video game "True Crime: New York City", in which the central character interacts with an undercover street cop based upon the rap star, who also provides the voice for him.

As we take y'all minds on another journey, through the darkside
We uplift you! Def Squad force comin through with the ruckus
Jammin for all knotty-headed peasy motherfuckers, ahh
And for funky bitches, we got a funky thing for you
I said I gets down like that, who am I (Funk Doctor)
(As I kiss the sky)
I said I gets down like that, who am I (Funk Doctor)
(As I kiss the sky)
Bomb troll, funkier than Haitian underarms
Represent Jersey, the land of firearms
Hotwired cars, emptying cigars
Afros, mofo's, on knees with momo's
It's nasty as I come my shit be douche
I used to be the chief instructor for Bruce
Choose your weapon -- A FATALITY
Line your crew up now -- BABALITY
In nineteen ninety-six bitch ass niggaz all in my mix
On some rah rah shit, get my rah rah dick!
Nuts alert, first sound de alarm on de expert
My network, operate sharper than a Gilette works
Off the corner style Blinds in Knightening Armor
About more Facts of Life than Tudy or Blair Warner
Chi-Town where you at (we got your back)
D.C. where you at (we got your back)
My crew Come Strapped like MC Eiht with nickel plates
Gettin mad Dead Presidents ask Lorenzo Tate
Ahh, gettin loot rollin craps in the yard
Can't be scarred by media, SO FUCK THE MEDIA
Most MC's are terrible, unbearable
Couldn't get stupid if you were sliced cerebral
Ahh no need to... act like he's shittin
Man you're funnier than Ed Griffith, it's Red's kitchen
My infrared's missin, damn I'm slippin
I'm out of ammo, yo Crossbreed, stick the clip in
The lyrics to Redman's "Interlude" opens with a humorous introduction from a DJ, inviting "high motherfuckers" to call the hotline at 1-800-DIKINYABOOTY. The song then transitions to a chorus where Redman affirms his identity as the "Funk Doctor Spock" and brags about his skills as a rapper. He describes himself as "funkier than Haitian underarms," and represents his hometown of Jersey as the "land of firearms." Another notable line from the verse boasts about his martial arts skills as the "chief instructor for Bruce," referencing the legendary Bruce Lee. In the following verse, Redman continues to flex his lyrical prowess, with playful wordplay about "Line your crew up now -- BABALITY." He also name-drops other cities such as Chicago and D.C., stating that his crew has got their back. The song ends abruptly with Redman realizing he's run out of ammo and asking his buddy to reload his weapon.
One interpretation of the song is Redman's attempt to showcase his witty and humorous approach to rap while still asserting his lyrical dominance. The repetitive use of the chorus with the line "I said I gets down like that, who am I (Funk Doctor) (As I kiss the sky)" seems to solidify his identity as a rapper with charisma and skill. The braggadocious verses also touch upon themes of violence and drug use, which were common in 90's hip-hop.
