River Song
Reed Foehl Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Showing me my way home
Came at the right time
Ah, you must have read my mind
When everything was scattered
You came along and mattered
Feels so right i wish this night could never end
We could do it over and over and over again
You came along and shattered
Everything that mattered
Chorus:
Sometimes it's like a river
Sometimes it's like a stone
But you, you are an island
And I am not afraid
To be stranded here and stay
With you
Come on girl, come with me
Come on inside
We'll head up into the mountains
Yeah, we'll take that ride
Roll some bones, lay back,
Tell some stories of home
'cause even if it shatters
It's the memories that matter
Chorus
Bridge:
It's hard to feel these days aren't numbered
But you've got to let go at last
Chorus
The song "River Song" by Reed Foehl is a beautiful love song that highlights the tranquility and safety one can feel being in the presence of their loved one. The lyrics depict the overwhelming feeling of being lost and alone until the right person appears, leading them home. The opening lines "It's a bright light on a dark night, showing me my way home" signify how the presence of the loved one, like a bright light, guides the singer to find a way back to himself/herself. The line "Came at the right time, ah, you must have read my mind" emphasizes the sense of destiny and spirituality in their union, as if fate has brought their souls together.
The chorus metaphorically compares their love to a river and a stone, portraying how sometimes their love flows smoothly, while sometimes it remains solid and unchanging like a stone. However, despite the changing tides, the singer finds solace in the fact that their partner is an "island", a symbol of stability and safety. The bridge of the song "It's hard to feel these days aren't numbered, but you've got to let go at last" signifies the acceptance of the impermanence of human life, and the need to make the best of every moment spent with the beloved.
