Reedom Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Watching,
From a post up high,
From where you see the ships afar,
From a well trained eye,
The waves all keep on crashing by,
If you are the light post,
Then you own the working class,
But if you want the answers,
You better give a piece of ass!
Give a piece of your ass

Warning.
Post hypnotic suggestions,
Running the ships ashore,
The orange light that follows,
Will soon proclaim itself a god.
If you point your questions,
The fog will surely chew you up,
But if you want the answers,
You better get ready for the fire!
Get ready for the fire, oh!

The ships are multiplying day after day sir,
And they're coming close to the shore sir, shore sir.
We need to evacuate the light post,
It's all over
Over!

It's all over.
Over. over. over!

Overall Meaning

The first verse of "Suggestions" by System of a Down is describing a person who is observing the world from a high vantage point. They see ships in the distance and waves crashing, indicating movement and change. The lyrics then turn to a commentary on power, stating that if the observer is the "light post," then they have control over the working class. However, they must give up something valuable, symbolized by a "piece of ass," to gain the answers they seek. This suggests a corrupt system where those in power must trade favors to maintain their position.

The second verse delves into a warning about post-hypnotic suggestions and how they can lead ships astray, perhaps implying that we are all being manipulated or misguided. The orange light mentioned in the lyrics could refer to a lighthouse or a beacon, but it also becomes personified as a god-like figure. The fog is mentioned as a potential danger, ready to consume anyone seeking answers. The verse ends with the idea that if you want the truth, you have to be prepared for the consequences, symbolized by the fire.

The final lines paint a picture of chaos and destruction, with the ships multiplying and coming dangerously close to shore. The observer notes that the "light post" must be evacuated, suggesting that even those in power are not immune to the events unfolding. The repetition of "over" at the end of the song reinforces the idea that something has come to an end, but there is a sense of uncertainty about what comes next.

the guy the name

@YouMe UsWe I wish I could have been there when Chris Tucker was given his costume for The fifth Element.

I would have gave my left nut to hear him say oh f*** no!!!

Apparently they tone down the costume after his input but considering how flagrantly flapped his costume is I can only imagine how bad it was at rehearsal...

ROTFL

Glad to hear we have similar circles of entertainment.

Also the movie was coincidentally about a pandemic that was clandestinely but knowingly released on the populous by their own government which caused panic and more authoritarianism… ironic not?

Daemon Ants

It got one thing wrong. In the movie, the bad guy was a conservative.

@Breck Breckenridge Going along? Look, Canada had struggled with this before a long time ago. Now since the French party failed, they swayed Liberal (French) and thus (didn’t matter anyway) flushed the rest of western/central provinces into extreme federal mandates and taxes. These Liberal French can DEPART from CANADA and take their garbage with them—no tax included.

The Internet Astronauts

@Logical Dude in real life or in the movie ??

unacceptable Suz

@Breck Breckenridge opposing it along with many provincial priemiers. The minority Liberal government has a coalition with the NDP party. So they usually have the votes. The conditions to evoke the Emergency act have not been met! This had better be struck down! Trudo announced it to the media before even putting it forward in the House of Commons.

@ᴀʀᴍᴀɴɴ What is the opposition party doing? Going along?

V for Vendetta is such a classic now, and it's resonance means much more now than ever.
I have faith in the truckers and I love how they're done putting up with this insanity.
