René Dif is a pop artist from Denmark. He is a member of the Danish pop-dance group Aqua, with as many as 10 top 10 hits. Aqua was formed in 1994 and split up in 2001, but reunited in 2008. The band sold more than 28 million records worldwide, and appeared in the Guinness Book of Records as the only debut band with three "self-penned" Number One hits in the UK. René Dif has received more than 140 Gold and Platinum albums (and received a Diamond album in Canada for 1. mill sold albums). Aqua announced their comeback (as a live band) in 2008.
The Aqua # 1 hits were: "Roses Are Red", "My Oh My", "Barbie Girl", "Good Morning Sunshine", "Lollipop (Candyman)", "Happy Boys and Girls", "Cartoon Heroes", "Around the World" and "Dr. Jones". In March 2011 Aqua released their new single, "How R U Doin," which was taken from their fourth album.
René Dif's father was Algerian and his mother Danish. He has two younger brothers and a sister. He was never interested in school and was kicked out of it several times. He left school after ninth grade and worked on a cruise ship. While he was in Barbados, Dif heard a local DJ on the radio and decided to become a DJ. He went to Norway to pursue his dream of becoming a star.
While a DJ in Norway, Dif met DJ Alligator, with whom he made an album, Groove Your Soul, and a single, "I Believe". Although unsuccessful, they showed that Dif had singing talent.
Dif met Lene Nystrøm on a cruise ship in 1994. When he, Claus Norreen, and Søren Rasted were setting up a band, they needed a singer, and Lene was asked to join. The band, which was later known as Aqua, became an international success.
Since Aqua's dissolution in 2001, Dif has released three solo singles, "Let It All Out (Push It)," "The Uhh Uhh Song" and "Uhh La La La." In 2004 he began a career as an actor, starring in several movies directed by Lasse Spang Olsen. He owned a short-lived bar in downtown Copenhagen.
In 2002 he published an autobiography titled Popdreng Ud Af Skabet.
Dif is married to Rikke Maija, and they have a daughter, Mabel.

Life in plastic, it's fantastic
You can brush my hair, undress me everywhere
Imagination, life is your creation
I'm a Barbie girl in a Barbie world
Life in plastic, it's fantastic
You can brush my hair, undress me everywhere
Come on Barbie, let's go party!
ch ah ah yeah
Come on Barbie, let's go party!
Ooh woa
Make me walk, make me talk, do whatever you please
I can act like a star, I can beg on my knees
Come jump in, bimbo friend, let us do it again
Hit the town, fool around, let's go party
You can touch, you can play,
If you say, I'm always yours,
Ooh woa
I'm a Barbie girl in a Barbie world
Life in plastic, it's fantastic
You can brush my hair, undress me everywhere
Imagination, life is your creation
Come on Barbie, let's go party!
ch ah ah yeah
Come on Barbie, let's go party!
Ooh woa, Ooh woa
Come on Barbie, let's go party!
ch ah ah yeah
Come on Barbie, let's go party!
Ooh woa, Ooh woa
The song "Barbie Girl" by René Dif is a pop tune that embodies the persona and lifestyle associated with Barbie dolls. The lyrics depict a Barbie girl living in a Barbie world, where everything is made of plastic and appears perfect. The idea of plastic symbolizes a superficial and idealized existence, where external appearances matter more than inner feelings or depth.
The chorus suggests that the Barbie girl's life is one of fantasy and imagination, where she can be molded and transformed according to the desires of others. The idea of being undressed everywhere implies a vulnerability and lack of agency, as if her worth is solely based on her physical appearance.
The verses further emphasize the superficiality and objectification of the Barbie girl. She can act like a star and beg on her knees, showcasing a willingness to do whatever pleases others. The reference to a "bimbo friend" reinforces the objectification, suggesting a lack of substance and intelligence.
Overall, the song reflects a societal obsession with materialism, beauty standards, and the pressure to conform to a certain ideal. It raises questions about the extent to which individuals are valued for their appearance rather than their inner qualities, and the potential consequences of such shallow expectations.
