Former Flowered Up keyboard player Tim Dorney and Andy Todd founded Republica. Saffron was born in 3 June 1968 in Ibadan, Nigeria. She also appeared in the video for the Chesney Hawkes' hit "The One and Only" and in the video for N-Joi's single "Mindflux". Saffron was also lead vocalist on N-Joi's hit "Anthem" in 1990.
Republica released the first single "Out of this World" in 1994, followed by the single "Bloke" in January 1995.
Their debut album Republica was released in July 1996 and reached #4 in the charts. The single "Ready To Go" peaked at #13 in UK Singles Chart. "Ready To Go" also became the band' signature song. The fourth single "Drop Dead Gorgeous" ranked #7 in UK Singles Chart.

Their label, Deconstruction Records, folded shortly after the release of Speed Ballads. Deconstruction's back catalogue was swallowed up by BMG, who released a Best Of album in 2002. The band went on hiatus in 2001.
Following the breakup of Republica, Saffron worked with The Cure, appearing on the track "Just Say Yes". She also collaborated with Junkie XL for his 2003 album Radio JXL: A Broadcast From the Computer Hell Cabin.
In 2008 Republica reunited at Windsor at a Contra Mundum concert and performed three songs.

Wrap your arms and your legs and your hands and your tongue
Wrap your words and your life
Your feelings and pain
Wrap your cheatin's and your memories
Wrap your touch and your shame
Wrap your body around me
In you I will hide
Wrap your truth and your lies
Wrap your past and your plans
Wrap your secrets and hair
What you keep to yourself
And baby what you share
Wrap my body in you
Wrap my body in you
Wrap my body in you
Wrap my body in you
Wrap your body around me so it feels like home
And where your heart is and your pictures and your keys and clothes
Wrap your language and your places
Your sex and your taste
Your music and your money
What you love and you hate
Wrap your body around me
'Til it hurts I said
I want to get lost in your news
And your bed
Tie me in with your juices
Your tears and your sweat
Take me with your muscles
Your teeth and your scent
Wrap my body in you
Wrap my body in you
Wrap my body in you
Wrap my body in you
The lyrics to Republica's "Wrap" describe a desire for complete intimacy and vulnerability between two people. The singer urges her partner to wrap not only their physical body around her, but also their emotional and mental selves. She wants all of their secrets, their past and their present, their truth and their lies. She wants to be wrapped in them so that they are one entity, one home for each other.
The lyrics also touch on the idea of pain, shame and cheating, yet the singer still wants her partner to wrap all of that around her because she wants to know them fully, to be wrapped in their entirety. The repeated refrain of "Wrap my body in you" shows how much the singer desires this level of closeness.
Overall, the lyrics convey a strong desire for complete intimacy, with all of its joys and pains, so that they can live as one.
