Love Comes Down
Resurrection Band Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

He said that He had your number
You cut the telephone line
You say you needed a reason
He said "There ain't much time"
You kept tryin' to avoid it
He kept knockin' on the door
In a flash it was over
You were a prisoner of war

But when you loose, you win
That's the way it is
That's where the love comes down
That's where the love comes down

She was playin' in traffic an' you were scopin' her out
She was so much elastic, someone had strung her out
Until the fire had reached her, that's when the lights came on
That's when she got off her habit, that's when you took her on home

Cause when you loose, you win
That's the way it is
That's where the love comes down
That's where the love comes down

Cause when you loose, you win
That's the way it is
That's where the love comes down
That's where the love comes

You can't beat the heat
He's red hot on your trail
He's the love enforcer an' He's paid your bail
It's much more than emotion, It's not just in your head
You gotta die to get life an' you'd better off dead

But when you loose, you win
That's the way it is
That's where the love comes down
That's where the love comes down

Cause when you loose, you win
That's the way it is
That's where the love comes down
That's where the love comes down

When you loose, you win
That's the way it is
That's where the love comes down

That's where the love comes down

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Love Comes Down" by Resurrection Band convey a sense of urgency and intensity, as the singer addresses listeners who have resisted the call of love and redemption. The first verse features an allusion to divine intervention, with a reference to "He" having the listener's number and urging them to act before time runs out. The second verse tells the story of a woman who has hit rock bottom and been rescued by the listener, suggesting that love can come from unexpected places and turn things around.

The refrain emphasizes the idea that losing can lead to winning, and that love is the ultimate redeemer. The repetition of the line "That's where the love comes down" creates a sense of climactic release, with the listener finally experiencing the transformative power of love. The final verse brings back the religious language of the first verse, with the singer asserting that love is not just a feeling but a matter of life and death, requiring a spiritual death before one can be reborn.

Overall, "Love Comes Down" is a powerful anthem of hope and redemption, urging listeners to take a leap of faith and trust that love will ultimately triumph. The song draws on a variety of spiritual and mythic motifs, including the idea of death and rebirth, the concept of divine intervention, and the theme of rescuing someone in need. By combining these elements with their trademark hard rock sound, Resurrection Band creates a raw and visceral expression of faith and compassion.

There are many promises in the Old Testament that affirm God’s prevailing love and mercy for all.

For example, Psalm 136:1-26:

1 “Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures
forever.

2 “Oh, give thanks to the God of gods! For His mercy endures forever.

3 “Oh, give thanks to the Lord of lords! For His mercy endures forever.

4 “To Him who alone does great wonders, For His mercy endures
forever.

5 “To Him who by wisdom made the heavens, For His mercy endures
forever.

26 “Oh, give thanks to the God of heaven! For His mercy endures
forever.”

All 26 verses of Psalm 136 end in the same way. In fact, “For His mercy endures forever” is seen 42 times in the Old Testament!
Note God’s all-encompassing love and mercy in the following OT examples. I have summarized them for clarity:

All the families of the earth shall be blessed. (Gen 12:3,28:14)

All the nations of the earth shall be blessed. (Gen 18:18,22:18, 26:4)

All the ends of the world shall turn to the Lord. (Ps 22:27a)

All the families of the nations shall worship before God. (Ps 22:27b)

All those who go down to the dust shall bow before God. (Ps 22:29)

All flesh will come to God. He provides atonement. (Ps 65:2-3)

All kings shall fall down before God. (Ps 72:11a)

All nations (peoples) shall serve Him. (Ps 72:11b)

All nations shall come, worship and glorify God—a God full of compassion, and gracious, long-suffering and abundant in mercy. (Ps 86:9,15)

All the kings of the earth shall praise Him when they hear the words of His mouth. (Ps 138:4)

All He has made will receive His compassion. (Ps 145:9b NIV)

All will experience the Lord’s goodness because He is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy. (Ps 145:9a, 8)

All God’s works are wrapped in His tender mercies. (Ps 145:9b)

All God’s works shall praise Him. (Ps 145:10)

All living things will have their desires satisfied by His open hand. (Ps 145:14-16)

All people will receive a feast from God. (Is 25: 6)

All people and nations will have the covering and the veil that was cast over them destroyed. (Is 25: 6-7)

All faces shall have their tears wiped away as God swallows up death forever. (Is 25:8)

All mankind together will see the glory of God. (Is 40:5 NIV)

All the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of God. (Is 52:10)

All nations, at that time, will gather to honor the Lord no longer following their stubborn evil hearts. (Jer 3:17 NIV)

All nations and peoples of every language worshiped Him. (Dan 7:14 NIV)

All people will have God’s Spirit poured out on them. (Joel 2:28 NIV)

All peoples’ lips will be purified that they may call on the LORD and serve him shoulder to shoulder. (Zep 3:9 NIV)

The above, though not exhaustive, strongly affirm God’s unfailing, unending love for all people. And King David would add: “Great is Your mercy ... You have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol [translated “hell” 31 times in KJV; “Hades” in LXX 22].” (Ps 86:13)

Just think ...
God’s mercy and love will prevail—even in Sheol!

I lived in the Jesus People for about 6 months. Glen was the preacher and the lead singer of this band. They helped me to get closer to Jesus when I needed Him the most.

I saw Rez in Jhb. South Africa, early 90s. Glen Kaizer signed my show card with 2 Cor. 13:8. Scripture still blows me away. 😁
