Men
Rhode Island Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

I had a notion
Watching in slow motion
Oh baby baby
Make them crawl on broken class
For just a brief ten minutes with you
Is enough
And I caught a moment, a time
And I came to own it
And you
Can't turn round
No I'm your liberator
I'm the sound infatuator
Smoking gun
Favourite son
Holy Father I loved her
Holy Father I loved her
Baby darling
Holy Father I loved her
Holy Father I loved her
I've lost as well
They won't forget
I hope you will

My love, my love, my
Amen

The lyrics describe a passionate and intense relationship or encounter, with the singer expressing their infatuation with someone in a dramatic and almost desperate manner. The opening lines, "I had a notion, Watching in slow motion, Oh baby baby," convey a sense of anticipation and longing. The singer seems to be captivated by the object of their affection, yearning for just a brief moment with them despite the potential dangers or obstacles represented by the "broken glass."

The mention of owning a moment and being a liberator suggests a desire for control and empowerment in the relationship. The lyrics suggest a sense of possession and a need to be viewed as a savior or hero by the other person, indicated by phrases like "I'm your liberator" and "Favourite son." This possessiveness is further emphasized with the repetition of "Holy Father I loved her," implying a deep emotional attachment and reverence for the person being addressed.

The references to a "Smoking gun" and "Amen" add a sense of finality or resolution to the lyrics. The mention of being a "sound infatuator" and a "Favourite son" could suggest a sense of pride and arrogance on the part of the singer, as they assert their importance in the relationship. The lyrics also touch on themes of love and loss, with lines like "I've lost as well" and "They won't forget, I hope you will" hinting at the bittersweet nature of the singer's feelings.

Overall, the lyrics paint a picture of a tumultuous and intense relationship, characterized by passion, possessiveness, and a sense of longing. The singer's emotions are conveyed in a raw and unfiltered manner, with a mix of vulnerability and bravado apparent throughout the song. The repeated references to the "Holy Father" could suggest a sense of reverence and devotion, adding a layer of religious imagery to the complex emotions at play in the song.

I honestly feel really bad for the second guy, at least he was honest about what he was hiding and he seemed emotional about it.

Can’t believe they thought they were gonna arrest the guy with the cleanest record in East Providence

Yeah I also wonder why they let him off without any charges or infractions. It is because he was being recorded and his rights were violated as soon as the cop didn't state the reason he was being pulled over. Notice the editing ? The sgt arrives and it cuts to the thing being over? A handshake and they show it as the cop being nice ?
