Off My Mind
Richard Hawley Lyrics

We're here watching the stars explode
Endured thunder and lightning
Just about to overload
And I can't get you off of my mind
No matter how I try
I can't get you off of my mind
Time to get your hands dirty
Send no darkness, just beams of light
And as the planets are turning
In silent circles beyond your tide
And I can't get you off of my mind
No matter how I try
I can't get you off of my mind
No matter how I try
No matter
We all matter
We're all matter
Does it matter
How we try?
And I can't get you off of my mind
No matter how I try
I can't get you off of my mind
No matter how I try
No matter
We all matter
We're all matter
Does it matter
How we try?
How we try
The lyrics in Richard Hawley's song "Off My Mind" paint a picture of being lost in thought and the struggle to move on from something or someone. The first verse suggests that something exciting may have happened or it could just be a metaphor for feeling overwhelmed with emotion. The line "Just about to overload" suggests that these feelings are almost too much to handle. The chorus reveals that this overwhelming feeling is due to a person who cannot be forgotten, no matter how much effort is put into doing so. It's a relatable feeling for anyone who has struggled to move on from a relationship or a past experience.
The second verse talks about taking action and getting involved in something, whether it be getting physically dirty or shedding light on a situation. The mention of planets turning in circles suggests the idea of time moving forward, even if it feels like everything is standing still. The chorus is repeated again, emphasizing the fact that this person cannot be forgotten.
The final lines of the song question the importance of trying, suggesting that despite our efforts, nothing really matters in the end. This could be interpreted as a pessimistic view of life, or it could suggest that we should cherish the people and experiences that we hold close, regardless of the outcome. Overall, the song portrays a struggle to let go of the past and move on, while questioning the meaning behind our actions.

When I heard this in isolation, I really did think it was Mark Lanegan (that's a good thing!). Richard's voice is so versatile and chameleon-like.

Heard this song in Hollyoaks (16/03/2020), this song is really good! It's a good combination between a pop rock instrumental and soft vocals.
