Stars Fell On Alabama
Richard Himber and his Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Moonlight and magnolia, starlight in your hair
All the world a dream come true
Did it really happen, was I really there, was I really there with you?

We lived our little drama, we kissed in a field of white
And stars fell on Alabama last night
I can't forget the glamor, your eyes held a tender light
And stars fell on Alabama last night
I never planned in my imagination a situation so heavenly
A fairy land where no one else could enter
And in the center just you and me, dear
My heart beat like a hammer, my arms wound around you tight
And stars fell on Alabama last night

We lived our little drama, we kissed in a field of white
And stars fell on Alabama last night
I can't forget the glamor, your eyes held a tender light
And stars fell on Alabama last night
I never planned in my imagination a situation so heavenly
A fairy land where no one else could enter

And in the center just you and me, dear
My heart beat like a hammer, my arms wound around you tight

Wonderful! The more I hear from Himber, the more I admire the great orchestra he maintained over the years.

In his day Richard Himber was what today we would call a rock star. I should know -- my father who was around then told me all about it. He and my mother (who he was dating then) danced to his music. Listen to that amazing arrangement and vocal by Joey Nash. By the way Himber was also an accomplished magician as well (inventor of the Himber Wallet to you professional magicians out there.) THANK YOU "the78prof" for bringing me such great memories!!

The title appears to have been borrowed from the title of the 1934 book of the same name by Carl Carmer. It refers to a spectacular occurrence of the Leonid meteor shower that had been observed in Alabama in November 1833, "the night the stars fell." As reported by the Florence Gazette: "[There were] thousands of luminous bodies shooting across the firmament in every direction. There was little wind and not a trace of clouds, and the meteors succeeded each other in quick succession." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stars_Fell_on_Alabama
