Consisting of Andrew Elstner (guitar, vocals) Jimmy Vavak (Bass, vocals, ex-five deadly venoms) and Rob Smith (Drums, Traindodge, Roma79), RoS play powerful and melodic rock their own way, influenced by timeless bands such as Led Zep, King Crimson, the Police, David Bowie, and mid-west rock scene legends like Shiner.
To date, RoS have released four discs, a seven inch or two and various comps on St. Louis based Ascetic records. They released their first CD, 'Burn' 6 track Ep in 2001, featuring Ken McCray on drums.
The follow up to this was their first full-length release in 2003, 'Python' (named after their old and now broken tour van) with Dave Turncrantz on drums. About a year after Dave's split with Riddle of Steel, he moved to Chicago and joined Dakota/Dakota who then became Russian Circles. After Dave, Rob Smith of Traindodge and Roma79 (OKC/San Francisco) stepped in as their new and final full time drummer.
They recorded their third full-length disc, 'Got This Feelin'' in 2005. 'Got This Feelin'' was also released on vinyl by Robotic Empire. Their fourth and final release, '1985,' recorded by Paul Malinowski at Black Page Studio, was released in 2007, also on Ascetic Records.
RoS toured the US coast to coast countless times, and left shores to hit Europe and the UK in April 2006, and again in late winter of '07.
After roughly a thousand shows, Riddle of Steel played their last gig in September of 2008 and are now no longer a working band.

@Rockhorns76
Y'all say such nice things. Thank you all for the kind words.
@GigantorPrivates
this band has a special place in my heart, that no other band has come close to yet.
@mintclassic
Was so fortunate to have had the chance to see R.O.S. at the T-Rock way the hell up here in Minneapolis…probably the best totally-unknown band I've ever heard. Such a killer sound.
@musicforchewfaygs
@richfrommitch glad you liked it! they were very great, especially live. they were local here in st.louis, but did several national tours, and got a pretty decent fan base in the process. they put out 3 albums total. it shouldn't be too hard to find them.
@SILENTxKILLER256
Can't believe these guys never got their REAL props. Freakin Smokin'!
@smirch
The last song on this album...Aquilline...is beyond godly.
@musicforchewfaygs
i saw them open for alkaline trio 4 or 5 years ago. they've played a few 'reunion' shows here in saint louis in the past few years. i think the last one was a few months back.
@richfrommitch
Obviously, I've never heard of this band (stumbled here on a path of Shudder To Think). On this evidence they were unbelievably great.
@pigspoon
Great band, great song, great album. Pissed as hell that I never got to see them live. What do you think the cost for a reunion show here in Detroit might be???
@musicforchewfaygs
have you been diggin' tilts?
