Faster
Ride Your Bike Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

And I lost you at hello
I remember the look that said, "this kid's as good as dead"
We left in a hurry and sped things up
We used your plastic to divide and take our shot
And things got faster
But I'm still so slow to decide
And this is it
We're gonna be looking for forver
But I know that time is short
It's all about the future, I'm told
We're gonna be waiting to surrender
Yeah, we'll be waving white flags soon
While we promise something different, it's true
So swear on my back that we'll never be like that
Oh, no
Oh, no
I'll swear it for the thousandth time
I'll cross my heart and hope to die
It's new
And I'm feeling it for you
We're gonna be looking for forever
But I know that time is short
It's all about the future, I'm told
We're gonna be waiting to surrender
Yeah, we'll be waving white flags soon
While we promise something different, it's true

We're gonna be looking for forver
But I know that time is short
It's all about the future, I'm told
We're gonna be waiting to surrender

Yeah, we'll be waving white flags soon
While we promise something different, it's true

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Ride Your Bike's song Faster speak to the fast-paced nature of modern relationships and the struggle to make decisions or commitments. The first few lines set the tone with an admission that the relationship was lost from the start, with the look of the other person conveying a sense of impending doom. The urgency of the situation is emphasized as the couple rushes to take their shot, dividing the plastic, likely referring to using a credit card to make a purchase. The faster pace of the situation is contrasted with the singer's slow decision-making, highlighting the conflict between the desire for instant gratification and the need for careful consideration.

The theme of time and the future is repeated throughout the song, with the acknowledgement that time is short yet the search for forever continues. The idea of surrendering and waving white flags suggests a sense of defeat, perhaps giving up on finding meaningful, lasting connections in a world that values speed and convenience over depth and commitment. The promise of something different rings hollow, as the singer recognizes the commonality of this experience and vows to avoid falling into this pattern.

Overall, Faster captures the uncertainty and anxiety that can come with navigating modern relationships, while also expressing a longing for something more meaningful and lasting.

I have noticed that my commute to work is slower than my commute home. I always thought it was due to difference in motivation.

It’s actually a scientific reason to this, your brain on your way to work will be looking for new details in everything. On your way home, your brain automatically thinks that there is nothing new to see so your brain ignores details in your surroundings

Some good tips here. I would love more expert opinions on optimal tire pressure, with actual numbers. I know that there are too many variables, but give us an idea what an optimal pressure would be for three different rider weights on three different tire sizes, assuming a normal road surface. As long as we all know it’s a range, we won’t hold you to specific numbers. An idea though would be helpful. I’m sure I could google it, but it’d be more interesting to hear what you think.

I ride 25mm tires, weigh 58kg and am 178cm tall. I run 75psi in the front and 80psi in the back. Basically just start lowering your tire pressure until you get pinch flats and then increase it by 5psi or so. This works for me and I’ve never had a problem. (Fingers crossed, touch wood.)

The clean and properly lubed chain is also something I had to learn by experience. Didn't believe it till I felt the difference.

I found myself riding faster in the morning (pre work) than in the evening (post work). But what really makes me faster is a nice, warm and sunny day! :)
