I feel like Rated R was a moment Rihanna really started standing out. What I mean is, her first three albums, she kinda had a Beyoncé-ish image which was why people constantly compared the two. Rated R set Rihanna in her own lane and defined her as the Rihanna we all know today. The good girl gone all the way bad. Beyoncé maintained her good girl image. I've been searching for this for years! Here's a quick insight on why. I saw this on the music channel as a little girl (I was a HUGE Rihanna fan back then) but I never knew what this song was called. The only thing I could remember about this was that the video was in black and white, and Rihanna was wearing some sort of coat. Rated R was a real career-defining album in Rihanna's career if you go down to it. She became a household name with the previous album Good Girl Gone Bad and then later the world knew her as the girl who got beaten by Chris Brown. That's always the fact that Rihanna cane out dark and she lost half of her black Americans females fans because of the Chris brown incident. However the rest of the world fell in love with the rates r album by the end of it. Rihanna didnot day anything and just came out with the wait is over song
So the press was puzzle by the fact she did not give an interview about the incident. Instead she remain silent until her album drop. Many of Chris fans try to call her a devil worshipper and said all the lies they could to break her spirit. So this album was a tough time in her career.
