Ringo however, is no newcomer to the music scene, and has perservered through a succession of bands, and session work which has had him recording with artists as diverse as Hugh Masekela, Simply Red, Teddy Pendergrass (The Power of One) and [aryist]Caiphus Semenya, as well as for the movie The Lion King.
Born in Cape Town in 1964, Ringo spent his childhood and school days in Gugulethu township, but finished high school in Umtata. Ringo was musically active from a young age, and while at school, led an acapella group which performed at community and youth functions. He later became vocalist for the group "Ikwezi", but it was to be as frontman for the band "Peto", that his unique vocal talents were first recognised nationally.
Peto won the national "Shell Road to Fame" talent competition in 1986, and this brought the band - and Ringo - national exposure, with television profile, touring engagements, and the role of support act for the King’s Trust" concert in Swaziland which was headlined by Eric Clapton.
Peto soon disbanded, and Ringo moved base to Johannesburg, where he spent the early 1990's as a member of Gecko Moon. During this time, he also did a lot of studio session work - for radio commercials, film, and album recordings
Ringo’s first album, Vukani ("Wake Up!") was released in 1996, during which year he also served as a support act when Papa Wemba toured South Africa as part of the Re-Connection Programme.
His second album, Sondelani ("Get Closer") was released late in 1997, and with its themes of reconciliation and national unity, carried a strong message for South African people. The album achieved Double Platinum status in sales, awards, and major airplay. This has ensured that Ringo has remained a sought after act on the performing circuit in South Africa.

Weight of the World
Ringo Lyrics
Maybe your daddy never held you like he should
Maybe your mama just held on the best she could
Every soul has a secret, give it away or keep it
But yesterday's gone so tell me why
You carry the weight, the weight of the world
It's breakin' you down on your back like a boulder
Before it's too late, get rid of it girl
Get it off your shoulder, I know you've been used
But you gotta lose the weight of the world
Maybe I haven't always been there just for you
Maybe I try but then, I got my own life too
Every heart has a hunger
I'm not getting any younger
I got all the crosses I can bear
Don't gimme the weight, the weight of the world
It's breakin' me down on my back like a boulder
Before it's too late, get rid of it girl
Get it off of my shoulder, you know I've been used
And I gotta lose the weight of the world
It all comes down to who you crucify
You either kiss the future or the past goodbye
We could fly so high
But we carry the world, the weight of the world
It's breakin' us down on our backs like a boulder
Before it's too late, get rid of it girl
Get it off of our shoulders, we've all been used
And we gotta lose the weight of the world
It's takin' us down and the night's growin' colder
Just blame it on fate, that was yesterday girl
And we're just growin' older, we've all been used
Now it's time to lose the weight of the world
The weight of the world
The weight of the world
Maybe your mama just held on the best she could
Every soul has a secret, give it away or keep it
But yesterday's gone so tell me why
You carry the weight, the weight of the world
It's breakin' you down on your back like a boulder
Before it's too late, get rid of it girl
Get it off your shoulder, I know you've been used
But you gotta lose the weight of the world
Maybe I haven't always been there just for you
Maybe I try but then, I got my own life too
