Monkey Business
Risk Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm aware of a big disgrace
Hoping that I'm not to late
Gossip has it, rumour says
Politics were not that mad

No one sees the liar
Any nation needs a fool
Most of us don't like it
What the finest ass hole do

Hey, it's crazy what you say
Do you think we would achieve?
Rubbish told in many ways
We should better not believe

Don't you hear the laughter
So ridiculous to see
Most of us ignore it
What the finest ass will do

Say, is it real
Is it really true
That you do, that you say it's no
Jiggery Pokery, no madness
I say, it is real
It is really true

What you do what you say to all
Let us call it

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Risk's song Monkey Business talk about the prevalence of lies and dishonesty in politics and society as a whole. The singer is aware of the scandalous and disgraceful matters going on around them but hopes it's not too late to address them. They reference the prevalence of rumors and gossip which suggest that politics were not conducted with the highest level of integrity.

The next few lines delve into the idea that every nation needs a fool, someone who they can blame for their shortcomings or use as a scapegoat. They allude to the fact that a lot of people are displeased with this kind of behavior but are often apathetic towards it. The chorus then speaks to the absurdity of some of the things that are said and done in the political arena. The singer suggests that it's better not to believe in the rubbish that's told in several ways.

Towards the end, the singer asks if what they're hearing is true and laments the jiggery-pokery and madness that comes with it. They assert that it is indeed true and that it's time to call it what it is. Overall, the lyrics depict the cynicism and skepticism that many people harbor about politicians and the way politics is conducted.
