Coolidge's early career was as a backing vocalist, for artists such as Joe Cocker, Eric Clapton, and Leon Russell. Her performance of "Superstar" on the Cocker/Russell Mad Dogs and Englishmen album helped gain her attention. She became known as "The Delta Lady" and inspired Leon Russell to write a song of the same name for her. It was during this time that she met Kris Kristofferson; the two married in 1973. With him, she recorded several duet albums which sold well, and earned them a Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal in 1974 for From the Bottle to the Bottom, and in 1976 for Lover Please.
In 1997, Coolidge was one of the founding members of Walela, a Native American music trio, that also includes Coolidge's sister Priscilla and Priscilla's daughter Laura Satterfield. The trio released albums in 1997 and 2000. Walela means hummingbird in Cherokee.

Love came for me
When love was rare
As love can be
I saw stars
Shining in clear blue skies
We flow together
Once and forever
One fine night
Love let us see
How far we'll go
How good we'll be
We saw a world
No one ever saw before
It was the world
Love can start
With the beat of a heart
Love came for me
I saw stars
Shining in clear blue skies
We flow together
Once and forever
Love came for me
One fine night
Love let us see
How far we'll go
How good we'll be
We saw a world
No one ever saw before
It was the world
Love can start
With the beat of a heart
Love came for me
Love came for me
Love came for me
Love came for me
One fine day
Love came for me
When love was rare
As love can be
I saw stars
Shining in clear blue skies
We flow together
Once and forever
Love came for me
One fine night
Love let us see
How far we'll go
How good we'll be
We saw a world
No one ever saw before
It was the world
Love can start
With the beat of a heart
Love came for me
I saw stars
Shining in clear blue skies
We flow together
Once and forever
Love came for me
One fine night
Love let us see
How far we'll go
How good we'll be
We saw a world
No one ever saw before
It was the world
Love can start
With the beat of a heart
Love came for me
Love came for me
Love came for me
Love came for me
The song āLove Came For Meā by Rita Coolidge tells the story of someone who unexpectedly found true love. The lyrics describe a pivotal moment in the singerās life, explaining how they saw the stars shining in clear blue skies while experiencing a true and powerful connection with someone else. The verse highlights how the singer felt that love was a rare thing in their life, but it came to them one fine day and one fine night. They were able to see a world that they never saw before and realized that love can start with the beat of the heart. The overall message of the song is that love can come into our lives unexpectedly and people should always be open to it.
The song has a rhythmic and upbeat melody that speaks to the joy of discovering true love. The repetition of the phrase ālove came for meā reinforces the idea that love is a gift that can come to anyone at any time. The use of the phrase āwe flow together, once and foreverā also emphasizes a sense of strong and unbreakable bond between the two people who have found love.

@ShadowDranzer1994 How so?
If you think the film is sexist, go watch āIndiana Jones and the Temple of Doomā.
At least Madison doesnāt scream and whine all the time (she actually shuts up once in a while), unlike Willie Scott.
At least Madison isnāt a damsel in distress (if anything she saves Allen multiple times from drowning), unlike Willie Scott.
At least Madison actually contributes to the plot, unlike Willie Scott.
At least Madison is resourceful (teaching herself English from watching TV and trading her necklace in exchange for the Mermaid water fountain because she isnāt carrying any money in her pocket), unlike Willie Scott.
At least Madison is comfortable with her nude body and sexuality, unlike Willie Scott.
At least Madison actually defeats the bad guys at the end (she fends herself from military scuba divers by removing their masks and hitting them with her fish tail), unlike Willie Scott.
At least āSplashā ended with Allen giving up everything (his family, his friends, his home, his job, and presumably his own species) in order to be with Madison under the sea; I mean, thatās pretty rare for a romantic comedy to have the GUY give up everything to be with his female love interest (usually, itās always about women who give up everything to be with the guy they love).
