The Dead in Disguise
Ritual Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
In the song "The Dead in Disguise" by Ritual, the lyrics describe a chaotic and ominous scene, suggesting that the dead have risen and are disguised as living beings, hiding in plain sight among the living. The lyrics urge the living performers to put on their shows and their best smiles, as it is their time to shine, but warn that no amount of makeup can hide the fact that their faces have never seen the light. There is a sense of foreboding as the lyrics proclaim that tonight is the night when the price will be paid, and the dead will rise. It seems that the performers are aware of the lurking danger, but continue their showmanship despite the presence of the dead in disguise.
The lyrics of "The Dead in Disguise" convey a sense of the uncanny, as the dead are portrayed as inhabiting the realm of the living, but with a sinister twist. The juxtaposition of the lively performance with the lurking threat creates a sense of tension and unease in the listener. The concept of the dead in disguise could also be interpreted as a metaphor for the masks that people wear in everyday life, the facades that hide their true selves.

Put on your shows
Pretend everything is alright
Set up your smiles
Force a grin on your face
Tonight is the night
The eve of dark events
It's time for you to shine so bright
It's your chance to impress
Your lipstick can't hide that the face you wear has never seen the light
Your facade cannot disguise your emptiness
Tonight is the night
A time of malice and malevolence
You'll pay the price
Enduring consequences will befall you
Tonight is the night
The harbinger of imminent doom
The dead will rise
The deceased will return
The dead in disguise are out tonight
The undead disguise themselves to roam the streets
