Turn around and change the inflection
They don't control me they don't
Manipulate me - they don't
All looks the same from my cell
Turn your eyes to my condition
Self improvement Daily lesson
They don't control me they don't
Manipulate me - they don't
I don't notice a difference
All looks the same from my cell
Look in my eyes Took me forever to see
I can see light Bring it back to me
Open my mind Sometimes remember the scenes
Of the daylight Back when there was a me
Look in my eyes Took me forever to see
I can see light Bring it back to me
Open my mind Sometimes remember the scenes
Of the daylight Back when there was a me
Footsteps from a place I once knew
Free to move, freedom to choose
Seems a dream I fell through
In my darkness I can't move
Look in my eyes Took me forever to see
I can see light Bring it back to me
Open my mind Sometimes remember the scenes
Of the daylight Back when there was a me
Look in my eyes Took me forever to see
I can see light Bring it back to me
Open my mind Sometimes remember the scenes
Of the daylight Back when there was a me
Footsteps from a place I once knew
Free to move, freedom to choose
Seems a dream I fell through
In my darkness I can't move
Hail the call for a new direction
They don't control me they don't
Manipulate me - they don't
I don't notice a difference
All looks the same from my cell
Look in my eyes Took me forever to see
I can see light Bring it back to me
Open my mind Sometimes remember the scenes
Of the daylight Back when there was a me
Look in my eyes Took me forever to see
I can see light Bring it back to me
Open my mind Sometimes remember the scenes
Of the daylight Back when there was a me

Seems a dream I fell through
In my darkness I can't move
The song "Difference" by Rivethead seems to be about a person who is trapped in their own mind and is seeking a way out. The lyrics suggest that the person is stuck in a cell, possibly a metaphor for a mental state, and cannot differentiate between the different situations and emotions they are experiencing. The person is looking for a new direction and wants to be in control of their life, but they feel trapped and manipulated by others. Despite this, the person is still looking for ways to improve themselves and learn new things every day.
The chorus repeats the lines "I don't notice a difference, all looks the same from my cell," suggesting that the person is unable to see the world in a different way and is trapped by their own perception. The person wants to see the light and bring back the person they used to be, but they are struggling to open their mind and remember the good times they had in the past.
The second half of the song repeats the same verses, suggesting that the person is still struggling with their situation and cannot seem to escape. The final lines of the song suggest that the person is reaching out for help, but they are unable to move in their current state.
Overall, the song "Difference" by Rivethead is a powerful commentary on the struggle with mental health and the need for support and understanding from others.

From about 2010 to 2014 I was living in Dallas and would go out to see these guys every time they played. That's when they had a lot of shows with Faded Grace and Razorblade Dolls. I used to run into the bassist with the long dreads all over Deep Ellum lol. Those were great shows.
