Throughout his childhood, James would sing regularly, but never in public.[2] He eventually moved to New York where he was influenced by his aunt, a former singer for Prince.[3] His love for the album Purple Rain landed him in a studio at the age of 19.[3] His skills as a songwriter began with the song Portrait, leading up to a credit on the single Use Me by R&B singer Miguel[4] after forming a bond with him on MySpace.[5]
James performed in and around New York with artists such as Luke James and Wynter Gordon. In 2013 he released his first EP, a three-part entitled Coke, Jack and Cadillacs. Each part represented important themes in his life - first love, first drink, first car.[2] The WP featured songs that included A.D.I.D.A.S. and Pledge Allegiance. It also featured Asher Roth on the song Lisa.[6]
James signed with ByStorm Entertainment/RCA Records in 2015 and subsequently released Permission, his first single from a major record label, reaching #13 on the Adult R&B Songs chart.[1] His debut album, "ELDORADO" was released May 27, 2016. It debuted at #3 on the Billboard R&B albums chart
Last Cigarette

And the past for the rest
I'ma treat you like you're my last cigarette)
Looked her in the eyes, say goodbye
This is my goodbye
I walked through the door to explore
'Cause I wanted more reasons to be loved
Baby, there you go, didn't know what I was in for
Uh-uh, 'bout to start another day
Hope it don't end the same way
It could be good, it could be bad
Long as it's better than the last
We find love, yeah, I'ma treat you like you're my last
We find love, because the first one didn't last as long as deserves
We can make it through the hard times
'Cause baby, I'll be good if you're mine
(Save the best for last
And the past for the rest
I'ma treat you like you're my last cigarette)
Turn your ass around, upside down
Look what I've found?
I think I've found my luck
Don't you love me, don't you love this, oh?
Feel I've met your love, but what you're waiting for
Baby, if it only matters, I'd be here for you
Uh-uh, 'bout to start another day
Hope it don't end the same way
It could be good, it could be bad
Long as it's better than the last
We find love, yeah, I'ma treat you like you're my last
We find love, because the first one didn't last as long as deserves
We can make it through the hard times
'Cause baby I'll be good if you're mine
(Save the best for last
And the past for the rest
I'ma treat you like you're my last cigarette)
No way I'm a quitter, my life is better when I'm with you
Promise this gon' be my last, you gon' be my last
I don't want no other, I'm just doing because I love you
Promise I'ma be your last, never leave you in the better
We find love, yeah, I'ma treat you like you're my last
We find love, because the first one didn't last as long as deserves
We can make it through the hard times
'Cause baby, I'll be good if you're mine
(Save the best for last
And the past for the rest
I'ma treat you like you're my last cigarette)
The lyrics of Ro James's song 'Last Cigarette' are about treating his partner with the utmost love and care. He compares his love for her to his last cigarette, which he savors and cherishes until it's finished. The chorus repeats the phrase: "Save the best for last And the past for the rest, I'ma treat you like you're my last cigarette," emphasizing the importance of valuing and cherishing his love.
In the first verse, he reflects on leaving his past relationships behind, looking for something more substantial. He acknowledges that love can be difficult, but he's willing to endure the hard times as long as his current relationship is better than the last. He promises to treat his new partner like his last cigarette and make her feel important and cherished. Similarly, in the second verse, he expresses how his luck has changed since he met his new love and emphasizes the importance of being there for her through thick and thin.
Overall, the song is a beautiful reminder to cherish our loved ones and to appreciate the present moment.
