Plan B
Ro James Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(Tick-tock)

Oh, baby
Put your keys on the counter
Keep my eye on the clock
Ain't no need to be nervous
Girl, I just wanna talk (about)
Love sometimes hurts you
But we don't deserve it
(But we don't deserve it)
And we both searchin' for the one
I understand

So if you can't find someone like me
I'll be right here, baby
I'll be right here, baby
Don't stress it, we can always go to plan B
You, you, you know that I deserve you (oh, baby)

So tell me, can we plan?
Come plan, I'm callin' for you
Don't stress it, we can always go to Plan B
Come plan, I'm callin' for you

I'ma probably hit your line
I'ma have to slide and sit aside
Know you ain't forget them nights
So don't make me chase ya
Know I gotta have that sexin' from you
Every day ain't enough
Shouldn't even be a question for you
Girl, you know how we get down

Don't you need someone like me?
I'll be right here, baby
I'll be right here, baby
Don't stress it, we can always go to plan B
You, you, you know that I deserve you

Oh, tell me, can we plan?
Come plan, I'm callin' for you
Don't stress it, we can always go to Plan B
Come plan, I'm callin' for you

I know that we're focused on ourselves
Ain't gotta run away this weekend
Ooh, ooh
As long as we remain friends
Tell me, can we plan?

Hit me like a lightning strikes
Like 1999
Back when the music was right
Hit me like a heartbeat so fast
Like a heart attack
I don't know where you're at
I don't know where you are

Who do you think you are?
Who do you think I think I am?

Overall Meaning

Ro James's song Plan B is a smooth, introspective meditation on love and relationships. The song finds James reassuring a hesitant partner, encouraging her to let go of her fears and open herself up to the possibility of love. Over a sultry, slow-burning groove, he reminds her that love can be painful but that they both deserve to find someone who will love them for who they are. "Love sometimes hurts you, but we don't deserve it," he sings, "And we both searchin' for the one, I understand."

I love this song. Brandy’s backing vocals are out of this world. Her harmonies are magical. My only complaint is that this song IS NOT long enough 😩

Optimistic Lane

Brandy is on the entire song, guys. You need really good headphones to hear every single insane harmony she came up with. Pay attention to moments like @1:38 - 1:40 when she adds harmony to the β€œsomeone like me” part. Or the moment that you can barely hear @2:43 where she counters his run on β€œwas”. It’s so LOW, you can barely hear the ascending run that she does. THIS is why she’s the vocal bible. She hears things no one else does, in her mind. The new album will show more of this.

She she low key carried the song. She made me like his part.
