Slow Down
Rob Halford - Halford Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Let it be
Still my anger
Bring me peace
From my temper

I'm trying every way I can
I'm doing wrong I understand
Let it be, slow down, watch the pressure fall
Bring me peace, slow down, I can't have it, I can't have it all.

Break the strain
Feed my hunger
Tell my mind
To be stronger

I've got to move and make it real
I've got to make myself a deal

Break this strain, slow down, give up what I crave
Tell my mind, slow down, watch what I can, watch what I can save.

Will I rise
Out of shadow
Staying calm
Felling hollow

I'm here to give me one more chance
That choice is resting in my hands, yeah

Let it be, slow down, watch the pressure fall
Bring me peace, slow down, I can't have it, I can't have it all.

Break this strain, slow down, give up what I crave
Tell my mind, slow down, watch what I can, watch what I can save.

Overall Meaning

The song "Slow Down" by Rob Halford is a powerful piece about coming to terms with one's own shortcomings and striving to achieve inner peace through self-discipline. The lyrics encourage the listener to let go of their anger and quell their inner turmoil, to break the cycle of bad habits and focus on personal growth. The singer admits to his own mistakes, while acknowledging his own drive to achieve his goals.

The opening lines - "Let it be, still my anger, bring me peace from my temper" - immediately set the tone for the song, offering a glimpse into the singer's state of mind. He is searching for calm amidst the chaos, longing to find a way to control his own turbulent emotions. He vows to keep trying, even though he understands that he is making mistakes. The chorus, "Let it be, slow down, watch the pressure fall, bring me peace, slow down, I can't have it all" further emphasizes this desire for self-control, and a need to slow down and take stock of one's life.

The second verse focuses on the desire for personal growth and improvement, with lines like "Break the strain, feed my hunger, tell my mind to be stronger". There is a sense of urgency here, a drive to succeed at all costs. But this ambition is tempered by the realization that there are limits to what one can achieve, and that sometimes it is necessary to give up something in order to move forward. The final lines, "Will I rise out of shadow, staying calm, feeling hollow. I'm here to give me one more chance. That choice is resting in my hands" reinforce this message - that change is possible, but it requires self-awareness and determination.

Overall, the song "Slow Down" is a testament to the power of self-reflection and the importance of taking responsibility for one's own actions. It is an uplifting, empowering piece that encourages the listener to strive for their best, while acknowledging the difficulties and setbacks that come with personal growth.

this is a stress relief and a reminder that when u been done wrong you may want to explode but most times things resolve themselves and you can have it all in the end.....without doing a thing........Halford is a Godsend to humanity with a voice from another realm

Time can't stop the Metal God. The 70's 80's solidified Halford as the Metal God. The 90's and the grunge movement couldn't stop him. His band Fight in the 90's came in and kicked the ass of every grunge band in existence. Then came the year 2000 a new decade and the Metal God put out the most epic metal album to exist. 🤘All hail Rob Halford! 🙌

This album is my favorite thing Rob has ever been involved in (including all of Priest), this song and "Silent Screams" are my favorite tracks. Not sure how but Rob is singing my life on those two tracks. Thank you, Rob.
