Williams has received a record 18 Brit Awards, winning Best British Male Artist four times, Outstanding Contribution to Music twice, an Icon Award for his lasting impact on British culture, eight German ECHO Awards, and three MTV European Music Awards. In 2004, he was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame after being voted the Greatest Artist of the 1990s. According to the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), he has been certified for 20.2 million albums and 8.66 million singles in the UK as a solo artist. Five of his albums have also topped the Australian albums chart, and has sold 75 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. He also topped the 2000–2010 UK airplay chart. His three concerts at Knebworth in 2003 drew over 375,000 people, the UK's biggest music event to that point. In 2014, he was awarded the freedom of his hometown of Stoke-on-Trent and had a tourist trail created and streets named in his honour. Williams' thirteenth album, XXV was released on 9 September 2022.
After 15 years, Williams rejoined Take That in 2010 to co-write and perform lead vocals on their album Progress, which became the second-fastest-selling album in UK chart history and the fastest-selling record of the century at the time. The subsequent stadium tour, which featured seven songs from Williams' solo career, became the biggest-selling concert in UK history when it sold 1.34 million tickets in less than 24 hours. In 2011, Take That frontman Gary Barlow confirmed that Williams had left the band for a second time to focus on his solo career, although he stated that the departure was amicable and that Williams was welcome to rejoin Take That in the future. Williams has since performed with Take That on three separate television appearances, and collaborated with Barlow on a number of projects such as the West End musical The Band.

Then laugh at you and hate you
Then they fight you
Then you win
When the truth dies
Very bad things happen
They're being heartless
I know, it's coming, there's gonna be violence
I've taken as much as I'm willing to take
Why do you think we should suffer in silence?
When a heart is broken there's nothing to break
You've been mixing
With some very heavy faces
The boys have done
A bit of bird
They don't kill their own
And they all love their mothers
But you're out of your depth son
Have a word
I know, it's coming, there's gonna be violence
I've taken as much as I'm willing to take
Why do you think we should suffer in silence?
The heart is broken there's nothing to break
All is wonderful in this life
Dreaming of the sun she warms
You should see me in the afterlife
Picking up the sons of dust
When you think we're lost, we're exploring
What you think is worthless, I'm adoring
You don't want the truth, truth is boring
I've got this fever need to
Leave the house
Leave the car
Leave the bad men where they are
I'll leave a few shells in my gun
And stop me starring at the sun
I know, it's coming, there's be gonna violence
I've taken as much as I'm willing to take
Why do you think we should suffer in silence?
My heart is broken there's nothing to break
The lyrics to Robbie Williams's song Tripping are about standing up to those who bully and demean others. The song suggests that these bullies, when faced with somebody who refuses to take the mistreatment they dish out, escalate things until they are confronted with real consequences. The message is that the fight against bullies is often painful, but it's worth standing up for oneself and asserting one's dignity.
The opening lines of the song summarize the progression of reactions to somebody who stands up to a bully or an oppressor. At first, the bully or oppressor might ignore the victim's complaints. Then, they will laugh at and ridicule the victim. Finally, they will resort to violence, as they feel their grip slipping away. The chorus restates the central message of the song - don't suffer in silence when facing an oppressive force.
Throughout the verses, Williams describes the singer's refusal to cave in to a gang of bullies. While the thugs have "done a bit of bird," implying that they've served time in jail, they also have a code of conduct that prevents them from killing their own or disrespecting their mothers. Williams suggests that the singer is out of his depth in dealing with the gang, but he implores him to keep standing up for himself anyway.
Overall, Tripping is a song about taking a stand against oppression even when the road is difficult. It speaks to the difficulties of defiance and the importance of pushing ahead anyway.
