Elle se promène
Robert Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ecoute cet appel.

Overall Meaning

The song "Elle se promène" by Robert tells the story of two people who have a chance encounter, likely in a nightclub, where they dance and fall in love for the night. The first verse paints a picture of the woman walking along the FM band, perhaps searching for a song to lift her spirits or to remind her of the previous night's love affair. The line "elle se promène sans joie ni haine" implies that while she may be searching for something to make her happy, she is not consumed by either joy or anger.

The second verse poses the question of what story to tell about these "amoureux d'un soir" (lovers for a night). It's a poignant question, as the answer is that their love affair was fleeting and most likely will not last. The third and fourth verses tie together the imagery of colors and radio signals to describe the ephemeral nature of love. Love, like colors, can blend and fade away quickly. However, love, like the messages we send on radio waves, can transcend time and space.

Overall, "Elle se promène" is a poetic exploration of the fleeting nature of love and the power it has to connect us across vast distances; even when we may only share a single evening of passion.

I had never heard about this lady before. Great song and performance! It's a shame that nowadays it's either English or nothing. When I was growing up there was still a lot of world pop music on the radio.
