By the time he reached adolescence, Robert knew his destiny was to be a jazz musician. He was accepted to the Houston's famed High School for the Performing Arts ("Jason Moran went there before me."). Post-graduation, Glasper enrolled at New School University in Manhattan. Soon after arrival, he hooked up with future bandmember Reid and vocalist Bilal, an old schoolmate. As an undergrad, Glasper gigged with Christian McBride, Russell Malone and Kenny Garrett. Professional life after the New School was even sweeter: stints with Nicholas Payton, Roy Hargrove, Terence Blanchard, Carmen Lundy, and Carly Simon.
The Bilal connection brought the pianist back to hip-hop. Glasper's contributions to Bilal's debut and subsequent tour brought him to the attention of Q-Tip (A Tribe Called Quest). "Tip would come hang out at my shows, and one day he called me and said, ‘I'm doing this tour and I need you to play keys. Can you do it?’” He's also since played with Mos Def, and is featured prominently on Bilal's forthcoming sophomore release.
In 2003, Glasper's first album Mood was released on indie label Fresh Sound New Talent, and two years later, Blue Note came calling. At Blue Note, Glasper joins a jazz piano legacy that stretches back to 1939, beginning with Albert Ammons and Meade Lux Lewis, and continuing through Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell, Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, Andrew Hill, Cecil Taylor, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Jacky Terrasson, Jason Moran and Bill Charlap. Undaunted, Glasper reflects, “I’m just happy to be a part of the Blue Note family and its rich history.”

Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah
Um, well
Yeah
You will find that we not very different, no, you and I
Feelin' like I'm in the skies, my hands could separate clouds
My bitch go get me take-out
They used to hate, they love me, and they used to love, they hate now
The world I rearrange, I turned it to a bloody playground
Here's to the homies, stayin' down through anything
A cheers to baby girl, who I would've copped a wedding ring
See, money isn't everything, but it helps
We walk around with pride in our eyes to the skies, the lies that we tell
Pickin' up a seashell, listen to the ocean
Do the whole thing all me-self, I'm livin' in the moment
Pickin' up all of the ashes, I'm burnin' the house down
Runnin' from my life, I probably ran a thousand miles now
Had powwows with millionaires, a foul child and a style wild
That you found out that I'm killin' there
Tell me how you feelin', how's it feel?
How's it feel? (Yeah, said how's it feel?)
How's it feel? (Can you tell me how's it feel?)
How's it feel? (To be around somethin' real)
How's it feel? (Yeah, yeah, said how's it feel?)
How's it feel? Yeah, tell me how's it feel?
How's it feel? So can you tell me how's it feel?
How's it feel? (To be around something real)
How's it feel?
They yellin', "Danger, danger," when I hopped out of the manger
With a two-way pager, callin' all the homies, screamin', "Savior"
This world could not be stranger, you could beat the odd behavior
Give a inch, they take a mile, take a mile, I'll take a acre
I'm a, alien communicator, fuckin' up the human nature
Projectile vomit on a song, the fluid nasty, uh
I just got the iPhone 6, it looks like Steve Jobs done ran out of tricks
Yeah, I come through stuntin' on 'em, in the park, buntin' on 'em
Somebody should pump you up, you best get Joe Budden on 'em
New couch, I'm fuckin' on it, after that, don't fuckin' want it
Bitch, I'm fuckin' awesome, come again? I said I'm fuckin' awesome
Press the pedal, wah-wah, hell nah, aw, nah
All I want is Lana and some head from Madonna
I gots to separate the weak from the obso-lete
Real life, this is not a dream
I'm a problem, just took a jet from Nicaragua
Copped me a vacation spot that came with an iguana, uh
The hot lava, sonta, a world with no ceilin'
Come again, tell me how you feelin', how's it feel?
How's it feel? (Said how's it feel?)
How's it feel? (Said how's it feel?)
How's it feel? (To be around somethin' real)
How's it feel? (So can you tell me how's it feel?)
How's it feel? (Said how's it feel?)
How's it feel? (Said how's it feel?)
How's it feel? (Can you tell me how's it feel?)
How's it feel? (Yeah)
Doo, doo-doo-doo-doo-doo
Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo, doo-doo
Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo
Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo, dun-dun
Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da, da-da-da-da-da-da-da
Haha, yeah
Mac Miller and Robert Glasper
You know what it is, you know what it is
The lyrics to "Therapy pt. 2" by Robert Glasper featuring Mac Miller explore themes of self-reflection, personal growth, and the complexities of fame and success. The song begins with the acknowledgment that despite their differences, the singer and the listener share common experiences. The singer describes feeling elevated, as if they can touch the skies and manipulate their surroundings. They also mention the paradoxical nature of fame, where people who once hated them now love them, resulting in a rearranged world that resembles a "bloody playground."
The lyrics then transition to expressions of gratitude towards loyal friends and a potential romantic partner. The singer highlights the idea that although money isn't everything, it does provide a sense of pride. They also mention living in the present moment and taking control of their life, even if it means running thousands of miles. The singer refers to encounters with powerful individuals and reveals their rebellious and unique style that earns them recognition.
Throughout the song, the repeated question "How's it feel?" invites introspection and prompts the listener to reflect on their own experiences. The lyrics also touch on topics like societal expectations, the limitations of technology, and the pursuit of pleasure. Ultimately, the song explores the singer's journey of self-discovery and the ever-changing dynamics of their life.
