In 1968, Goulet was on Broadway in the Kander and Ebb musical, The Happy Time. He appeared in a 1982 production of Rose-Marie with Inga Swenson, and in 2005 appeared in the Broadway revival of Jerry Herman's La Cage aux Folles. Goulet began a recording career with Columbia Records in 1962 which resulted in more than 15 albums.
Goulet began working in films in 1962, providing the voice of one of the characters in the animated feature Gay Purr-ee opposite Judy Garland. His first acting role was in His and Hers (1964), but it was not until a cameo appearance as a singer in Louis Malle's Atlantic City (1980) that Goulet was given critical acclaim. He recorded the song Atlantic City (My Old Friend) for Applause Records in 1981.
He was absent from the screen for seven years until he was cast by Tim Burton as a houseguest blown through the roof by Beetlejuice and also played himself in Bill Murray's Scrooged (both 1988). In 1990, he sang the Canadian national anthem at the beginning of WrestleMania VI, which was held at the Toronto Skydome in Toronto, Ontario Canada.
In 1991, Goulet starred, along with John Putch and Hillary Bailey Smith, in the unsold television series pilot Acting Sheriff. That same year he appeared as the bad guy known as 'Quentin Hapsburg' opposite Leslie Nielsen in the comedy The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear.
In 1993, he played himself in the Simpsons episode $pringfield. In that episode, he sang the well-known Jingle Bells (Batman Smells), although he has yet to record the song commercially. In 1996, he appeared in Ellen DeGeneres' first starring vehicle, Mr. Wrong, as an insecure TV host. Goulet has also appeared in the Disney cartoon, 'Recess', as the singing voice for Mikey Blumberg, in numerous episodes.
Something

Something's got to give
Something's got to give
When an irresistible force such as you
Meets an old immovable object like me
You can bet just as sure as you live
Something's got to give
Something's got to give
When an irrepressible smile such as yours
Warms an old implacable heart such as mine
Don't say no, because I insist
Somewhere, somehow, someone's got to be kissed
So, en garde, who knows what the fates might have in store?
From their vast mysterious sky?
I'll try hard ignoring those lips that I adore
But how long can anyone try?
Fight, fight, fight, fight, fight it with all of our might
Chances are some heavenly star-spangled night
We'll find out just as sure as we live
Something's got to give
Something's got to give
Something's got to give
Fight fight fight it with all of your might
Chances are that some heavenly star-spangled night
We'll find out just as sure as we live
Something's got to give
Something's got to give
Something's got to give
Something's got to give
Something's got to give
Aww, let's tear it up !
The song "Something's Gotta Give" by Robert Goulet is a tale of conflicting emotions and desires. The singer sets up the situation - they are an old immovable object, while the subject of their affections is an irresistible force. There is an undeniable attraction between the two, but they both fear the consequences of succumbing to their feelings. The singer implores the object of their affection to give in to their desires, stating that someone, somewhere, somehow has to be kissed. They acknowledge the struggle to resist this attraction, but assert that something has to give eventually. The song ends with a call to action, urging the object of their affection to fight with all their might, because chances are that they'll find out what happens if they don't.
The lyrics of this song convey the struggle and tension that arise when two people feel drawn to each other but fear what might happen if they give in. There is a sense of urgency and inevitability in the lyrics - something has to give eventually, whether it's the object of their affection finally giving in or the singer walking away from the situation. The use of imagery and metaphors, such as the irresistible force and immovable object, adds depth and complexity to the lyrics.
Overall, "Something's Gotta Give" is a compelling tale of love, attraction, and the struggle to resist forbidden desires. It's a song that many people can relate to, and its timeless themes ensure its enduring popularity.

There is no longer talent or class like the one found in Mr. Goulet's and Ms. Andrew's generation.
Robert Ham
@Erhard Jäckel While I love Robert Goulet and Julie Andrews, you're telling us that there are no great artists today? Zero? No one has any talent? Talent stopped with these two?
Erhard Jäckel
Very true, both great artists, which cannot be found today anymore
David Millbrook
I mean, that's a luttle short sighted...go to literally any musical theatre school and you'll find a good number of individuals that are just as good in that legit style...
Juli Starling
Well, there aren't any others who can sing just like them, but then, everyone is unique.
And, yes, there still is talent today too. Thank you for remembering to mention it. ^___^
Robert Ham
Huh? While I like Julie A. and Robert G. and lots of older stars, saying there is no talent today seems a bit crazy. Every generation has plenty of talent, but tastes and expectations are always changing.
irvinemuscle
This is an example of what true CLASS looks like, don't see much of it today. Both great super-talented stars.

He's amazing, but this is also one of the greatest pieces of Broadway music and lyrics ever composed.

You can feel the palpable love from her to him and from the audience. Magic, pure and simple! No special effects, just raw emotion and talent.
Bill Brimmer
He always nailed his signature song. Tell me who isn't in love with Julie Andrews? They always had a wonderful friendship over the years and were supportive to each other. Great to see.
