You And Me Against The World

Sometimes it seems like you and me against the world,
When all the others turn their backs and walked away,
You can count on me to stay.
Remember when the circus came to town
How you were frightened by the clown,
Wasn't it nice to be around someone that you knew,
You and me against the world,
Sometimes it seems like you and me against the world
And for all the times we've cried I always felt that
God was on our side.
And when one of us is gone,
And one of us is left to carry on,
Then remembering will have to do,
Our memories alone will get us through
Think about the days of me and you,
Of you and me against the world.
The lyrics of "You and Me Against the World" by Robert Goulet convey a powerful message of unwavering love and support in the face of adversity. The song speaks to the idea that the bond between two people can be so strong that it feels like they are standing together against the rest of the world. It acknowledges the challenges and moments when others may turn their backs, but emphasizes the reliability and dependability of the singer who will always stay by their side.
The lines "Remember when the circus came to town, How you were frightened by the clown" symbolize a moment of vulnerability and fear. In this context, the presence and support of someone familiar and trustworthy bring comfort to the individual. The song suggests that having someone who is "big and strong" looking out for them creates a sense of security and reassurance.
The chorus reiterates the theme of unity and resilience, emphasizing that no matter how tough the times get, the singer and the person they are singing to will continue to face the world together. The lyrics suggest that the bond between them is so strong that even in times of sadness or hardship, they believe that God is on their side, offering divine support and solace.
In the final verse, the song acknowledges the inevitability of one of them being left alone. However, it highlights the power of memories in providing solace and strength. The memories they created together will serve as a source of comfort, helping the remaining person carry on. The song concludes by evoking nostalgia and encouraging the listener to reflect on the joyful moments shared between them, capturing the essence of their enduring connection.
