His eighties success was kickstarted by his participation in supergroup The Power Station, along with Andy Taylor and John Taylor of Duran Duran and Tony Thompson of Chic.

It Could Happen to You
Robert Palmer Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Lock your heart up tight
It could happen to you
Don't count stars
Or you may stumble
Someone drops a sigh
An' down you tumble
Keep an eye on spring
Run when church bells ring
It could happen to you
All I did was wonder
How your arms would be?
And it happened to me
All I did was wonder
How your arms would be?
And it happened to me
The lyrics to Robert Palmer's song It Could Happen to You are essentially a warning to the listener to guard their hearts and dreams. The first two lines set the tone for the song as the singer advises the listener to be wary of the world around them. He then goes on to caution against counting stars or getting lost in romantic fantasies because it only takes one small thing to bring you down. The singer advises to keep an eye on spring and to run when church bells ring, implying that those are the times to be most cautious. The final lines of the song are a poignant reminder that sometimes things can happen to you despite your best efforts to protect yourself.
