His eighties hits were promoted by particularly striking award winning videos, featuring an all-female, black-clad backing band. The memorable videos, directed by Terence Donovan, featured heavily on MTV and played a large part in his transatlantic success.
His eighties success was kickstarted by his participation in supergroup The Power Station, along with Andy Taylor and John Taylor of Duran Duran and Tony Thompson of Chic.

You're My Thrill
Robert Palmer Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You do something to me
You send chills right through me
When I look at you 'cause you're my thrill
You're my thrill
How my pulse increases
I just go to pieces
Every time I look at you I can't keep still
Nothing seems to matter
Hm
Here's my heart on a silver platter
Oh where's my will
Why this strange desire
Flaming higher and higher
Every time I look at you
I can't keep still
You're my thrill
The lyrics to Robert Palmer's "You're My Thrill" describe the overwhelming passion and desire the singer feels for a particular person. The first line "You're my thrill" sets the stage for the rest of the song and communicates a sense of excitement and intensity. The second line "You do something to me" suggests that this person has a magnetic effect on the singer that they cannot resist or explain. The third line "You send chills right through me" builds on this idea, indicating that the singer's physical response to this person is so strong that it causes a reaction in their body.
The second verse focuses on the singer's emotional response to this person. The line "How my pulse increases" suggests that being near this person has a physiological effect on the singer, and they feel their heart beat faster. The line "I just go to pieces" underscores the idea that the singer is powerless in the face of this person's allure and can't help but be affected by them. The next line "Every time I look at you I can't keep still" suggests that the singer is constantly drawn to this person and cannot resist their pull.
The final verse ends on a note of uncertainty, with the lines "Oh where's my will/Why this strange desire/Flaming higher and higher." These lines suggest that the singer is struggling with their feelings for this person, unsure of why they are so drawn to them and where this attraction will lead. The repetition of "Every time I look at you/I can't keep still" reinforces the idea that the singer's desire for this person is all-consuming and cannot be ignored.
