Robert Plant Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You need coolin', baby, I'm not foolin',
I'm gonna send you back to schoolin',
Way down inside honey, you need it,
I'm gonna give you my love,
I'm gonna give you my love.

*Wanna Whole Lotta Love (X4)
You've been learnin', baby, I bean learnin',
All them good times, baby, baby, I've been yearnin',
Way, way down inside honey, you need it,
I'm gonna give you my love... I'm gonna give you my love.

[Chorus]
You've been coolin', baby, I've been droolin',
All the good times I've been misusin',
Way, way down inside, I'm gonna give you my love,
I'm gonna give you every inch of my love,
Gonna give you my love.

[Chorus]
Way down inside... woman... You need... love.

Shake for me, girl. I want to be your backdoor man.
Keep it coolin', baby

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Robert Plant's song Whole Lotta Love can be interpreted as a seductive conversation between two people where the singer is trying to woo their partner through promises of love and passion. The song opens with the singer claiming that their partner needs "cooling" which can be interpreted as their partner needing to be calmed down or pacified. The singer then promises to send their partner to "schooling," implying that they are going to teach them a thing or two about love. The repeated refrain of "I'm going to give you my love" throughout the song reinforces this idea of the singer trying to seduce and win over their partner.

The chorus of the song shifts the focus to the couple's past experiences together, with the singer claiming to have been "drooling" over their partner while they had been "misusing" all the good times they had shared. This again suggests the singer's desire to win over and make amends with their partner. The repeated refrain of "Wanna Whole Lotta Love" could be seen as the singer's way of asking if their partner is ready to commit to a new and improved relationship with them.

Overall, the lyrics of Whole Lotta Love can be interpreted as a seductive conversation between two people where the singer is trying to win over their partner through promises of love and passion.

For an epic rock singer like Plant, he must have really took care of his vocal chords over the years. It is rare a rock voice is so good still. We are lucky.

nxlxn

Actually he didn't. His voice was absolutely shot by 1973. He had vocal surgery at one point around then. He lost significant range over the years. What's amazing is, he's actually gained much of it back. His voice is smoother now than it was in the 80's.

DeadShred9

Band is tuned down but his vocals are still very good for his age and the wear and tear over the decades !!

JohnM0rris

@nxlxn I noticed that too. His vocals in the 2007 live show are much better than the live aids concert. That was an embarrassment tbh. Only good member was jones at the time.
