Gone Gone Gone
Robert Plant - Alison Krauss Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
When everything seems okay, baby
You'll wake up and find out you're alone
Cause I'll be gone
Gone, gone, gone really gone
Gone, ga-gone, cause you done me wrong
Everyone that you meet baby
Will ask you why you're walkin' all alone
Why you're on your own
Just say I'm gone
Gone, gone, gone
Gone, ga-gone, cause you done me wrong
If you change your way baby
You might get me to stay baby
Ya better hurry up if ya don't wanna be alone
Or I'll be gone
Gone, gone, gone
Really gone
Gone, ga-gone
Cause you done me wrong
The lyrics of Robert Plant's song, "Gone Gone Gone", depict a painful breakup. The opening verse paints a picture of a sunny day where everything seems fine, yet the singer awakens to the realization that the person they love is no longer there. The chorus uses repetition to emphasize the finality of the breakup, with lines like "I'll be gone, gone, gone really gone" and "gone, ga-gone, cause you done me wrong". The second verse suggests that the singer's former partner will face inquiry from others as to why they are alone, to which they can reply that the singer has left due to being wronged.
The last verse gives a glimmer of hope that the breakup could be avoided if the partner changed their ways, but emphasizes that time is running out with the line, "ya better hurry up if ya don't wanna be alone". The song overall does not express anger or bitterness towards the partner, but rather a somber acceptance of the situation. The repetition of "gone" throughout the song emphasizes the feeling of finality and the reality of moving on.

He still has the same swagger he had in Led Zepplin. Brilliant.

Saw Robert Plant at Merlefest in Wilkesboro, NC in 2011. Yes, the Rock God performed at one of the biggest Bluegrass festivals in the US. He's a humble guy. Gave credit to Ms. Krauss for teaching him a new way of singing. He also talked about his love of Americana, Appalachian music and how he choose THE best Bluegrass musicians to tour with him. I loved him even more.
