Nada
Roberto Goyeneche Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

He llegado hasta tu casa...
Yo no se como he podido!
Si me han dicho que no estas,
que ya nunca volveras,..
Si me han dicho que te has ido!
Cuanta nieve hay en mi alma!
Que silencio hay en tu puerta!
Al llegar hasta el umbral,
un candado de dolor
me detuvo el corazón.

II

que hoy he vuelto arrepentido
a buscar tu amor.

I (Bis)

Ya me alejo de tu casa
...y me voy yo ni se donde...
Sin querer te digo adios
y hasta el eco de tu voz
de la nada me responde.
En la cruz de tu candado
por tu pena yo he rezado...

y ha rodado en tu porton
una lagrima hecha flor.

Overall Meaning

The song "Nada" by Roberto Goyeneche is a heartbreaking tale of a man who returns to his love's home only to find out that she is no longer there. He struggles to come to terms with the reality of her absence and the emptiness that now surrounds him. The opening lines of the song capture the singer's disbelief at having made it to his love's home, even though he had been told that she was no longer there. The imagery of snow in his soul and silence at her door paint a picture of his desolation.

As he reaches the doorstep, he is halted by a "lock of pain" that stops his heart. The song then turns to a description of the decay and neglect that has taken hold of the once-beautiful home. "Nothing, nothing remains of your childhood home," he sings, lamenting the loss of everything that once made the place special to him. The reference to "cobwebs woven by the yoke" lends a sense of hopelessness to the situation. The rosebush he gave her is also gone, an indication that even the most beautiful things in life are transient and cannot be held onto forever.

The final verse of the song sees the singer leaving her home, again questioning where she has gone and whether she still lives. The image of her voice echoing back to him from "nothing" emphasizes the emptiness he feels. He prays for her pain as he leaves, and a tear falls from the lock of pain on the gate, blooming into a flower as a symbol of the love that once was.
