Grab a brush and put a little makeup
Hide the scars to fade away the shakeup
Why′d you leave the keys upon the table?
Here you go create another fable
Grab a brush and put a little makeup
Hide the scars to fade away the shakeup
Why'd you leave the keys upon the table?
In my self righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to
Wake up
Grab a brush and put a little makeup
Hide the scars to fade away the shakeup
Why'd you leave the keys upon the table?
Here you go create another fable
Grab a brush and put a little makeup
Hide the scars to fade away the shakeup
Why'd you leave the keys upon the table?
I don′t think you trust
In my self righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to
In my self righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to
Father into your hands
I commend my spirit
Father into your hands
Why have you forsaken me?
In your eyes forsaken me?
In your thoughts forsaken me?
In your heart forsaken me I
Trust in my self righteous suicide
I cry when angels deserve to
The song "Chop Suey" by Robyn Adele Anderson begins with a wake-up call to the listener. The opening lines "Wake up, grab a brush and put a little makeup" induces images of an individual trying to cover up their flaws and scars by wearing make-up. The phrase "hide the scars to fade away the shakeup," suggests that the individual is trying to conceal their emotional pain to show the world that they are happy. The next line "why'd you leave the keys upon the table?" is cryptic, but it could imply that the person wants to be left alone and disconnected from the world.
In the next verse, Anderson repeats the same lines, driving home the message that the individual is still struggling to cope with their feelings. The phrase "I don't think you trust in my self-righteous suicide. I cry when angels deserve to die" carries a powerful message. It suggests that the individual assumes that other people don't understand their situation and feels entitled in their self-sacrifice. In the final verse, Anderson leaves the listener with the evocative phrase, "Father, into your hands I commend my spirit." This line stands in contrast to the other lines in the song, which talk about the singer struggling with themselves. The last line offers a glimmer of hope, indicating that the individual is ready to seek salvation.

How chop suey got its name: The song was originally titled "Suicide" but Columbia Records forced the band to change it to avoid controversy. The song title is therefore a wordplay, with "self-righteous suicide" replaced by "self-right-chop suey-cide" in order to avoid provocation by using absurdity.
