Landslide
Robyn Sherwell Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I took my love, I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
'Til the landslide brought it down
Oh, mirror in the sky
What is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changin' ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life??

Well, I've been afraid of changin'
'Cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I'm getting older too
And I'm getting older too
Oh, take my love, take it down
Climb a mountain and turn around

And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide will bring it down
And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills

Well the landslide will bring it down
The landslide will bring it down

Overall Meaning

In Robyn Sherwell's "Landslide", the lyrics tell the story of someone who has taken their love and climbed mountains, only to turn around and see their reflection in the snow-covered hills. The internal monologue questions whether love can rise above the trials of life and whether the child within can handle the changing tides of life. The song speaks to the fear of changing and the need to acknowledge that even children get older, and with time, everyone gets older. The singer seeks to give away their love, to climb new mountains and face new challenges, but recognizes that it may ultimately end in a landslide, bringing everything down.

The song deals with themes of aging and change, questioning whether one can sail through the changing tides of life and handle the seasons of life. The metaphor of the snow-covered hills and the landslide speaks to the inevitability of change and the fear of letting go of someone or something that has been central in life. The lyrics are introspective, questioning the nature of love and its ability to withstand the challenges of time.

This song came on during a commercial. My grandma used to sing me this song when I was little, she passed away 10 years ago. Every time I hear this song, I think of her, how much I miss her and how I would do anything to hear her sing to me again.
