Good Morning Heartache
Robyne Dunn Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Good morning heartache, you old gloomy sight
Good morning heartache, thought we said goodbye last night
I turned and tossed until it seemed you had gone
But here you are with the dawn

Wish I'd forget you, but you're here to stay
It seems I met you when my love went away
Now everyday I start by saying to you
Good morning heartache, what's new

Stop haunting me now
Can't chase you no how
Just leave me alone
I've got those Monday blues
Straight through Sunday blues

Good morning heartache, here we go again
Good morning heartache, you're the one who knew me when
Might as well get used to you hanging around
Good morning heartache, sit down

Stop haunting me now
Can't chase you no how
Just leave me alone
I've got those Monday blues
Straight through Sunday blues

Good morning heartache, here we go again
Good morning heartache, you're the one who knew me when

Might as well get used to you hanging around
Good morning heartache, sit down

Overall Meaning

In "Good Morning Heartache," Robyne Dunn sings about the familiar feeling of heartbreak that never quite leaves. The song opens with the titular phrase, "Good morning heartache," addressing the pain she feels as if it is a person, an old acquaintance, sitting across from her. Despite having said goodbye to this pain the night before, it has returned with the dawn. Dunn sings about wishing to forget the heartache, to move on, but knowing that it is too late, it is here to stay. She implies that this heartache came into her life when she lost someone she loved, and it seems that it will never fully leave.

The chorus repeats the plea for the heartache to stop haunting her, for it to leave her alone. She describes having "Monday blues" straight through "Sunday blues," implying that every day is a struggle when this pain is present. Dunn also addresses the heartache as if it is a person sitting with her again, telling it to sit down, indicating that she has accepted its presence in her life. Despite her frustration and sadness, she seems to have come to the realization that the heartache is a part of her now, and she must learn to live with it.
