Rocco - in spite of never slapping - was the funkiest bassist ever. He was lucky to have 2 organ transplants and extend his legacy further. He was on borrowed time from that second transplant. He was so influential in the bass community - beyond anything he or the rest of Tower Of Power might have imagined. Berklee School of Music Bass Department hosted a tribute to Rocco Webinar shortly after he passed. Bassists from bands from Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Stevie Wonder, The Rolling Stones, Megadeath, Snarky Puppy, Phil Collins along with Rocco’s family members, and TOP’s Emilio Castillo and David Garibaldi all had Rocco stories. One was that a young Jaco Pastorius used to hang out at TOP gigs and sit in with the band - Rocco was his hero, too. There are about 40 webinars now, and someday they’ll be edited and posted on the bassvault.com, including this one. I listen to Rocco w/TOP everyday!
