Deep Inside My Heart
Rock City Angels Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She's got a ruby ring
Sparkles at a glance
See the man downtown ya know he
Always loves ta make ya (dance)
It's an adolescent romance
And it's tearin' up the charts
Deep inside my heart
Deep inside my heart

The alligator alley
The dark end of the street
You're waiting for your sugar baby
Your're waiting to feel the heat
It's an adolescent romance
And it's tearin' up the charts
Deep inside my heart
Deep inside my heart

She's a night time knowin' baby
Tearin' your soul right apart

Say ya better move on
Goin' crazy over you
With every single heartbeat
Know theres nothin' you can do
It's an adolescent romance
And it's tearin up the charts
Deep inside my heart

Deep inside....

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Rock City Angels' song "Deep Inside My Heart" evoke the feeling of adolescent love, the excitement of infatuation, and the reckless abandon that comes along with it. The opening lines reveal the object of the singer's affection, a woman who wears a sparkling ruby ring and catches the eye of a man downtown who loves to dance. The imagery of this verse paints a picture of a vibrant and bustling city, with the singer entranced by the charm of his crush.

The second verse takes a darker turn, referencing "alligator alley" and "the dark end of the street," which suggest danger and illicit activity. Yet in spite of the ominous tone, the lyrics maintain a sense of urgency and passion, with the singer waiting for his "sugar baby" and longing to feel the heat of their love. It's clear that this relationship is intense and all-consuming, tearing up the charts of the singer's heart and leaving him feeling torn apart.

Throughout the song, the lyrics convey a sense of emotional turmoil mixed with a heady excitement, capturing the dizzying highs and lows of adolescent romance. The repetition of the phrase "deep inside my heart" reinforces the depth of the singer's emotions and his inability to shake the hold his love has over him.

In '88 I was 19, and spending most of my money buying music, I saw the cover and knew it had to be good! Boy, was I right.. It really broke my heart to hear about Bobby's passing. So it's good to see people still finding out about this band and their still! really good music. Young Man's Blues is in my endless top 5 of best albums ever always on a no.1 position.

I know what you mean. I was 18 in 1988
and I loved Rock City Angels. I still have this CD next to KISS CDs.

@annabelmgraham

I was 17 and didn't know they existed. I don't think they made the charts here in New Zealand.

In 1988 I was in a cool band called Ripp Off in the Phoenix/Tempe area. Played clubs and bars like, The Mason Jar, Bootlegger, Buddyz. Those were fun and special days!
